Being early is more rude than being late, I think. It's ok if they wait until the time they booked but expecting you to see them early and calling while you are with someone is plain rude. Late is not great either though. I like to take short notice bookings in hotels and do often find that a guy who says he is 10 - 15 mins away is always more like 20 - 25.  Just say that pal or check your satnav, it will tell you the exact time you'll be parking up!
