Photographers and Copy right transfer template?

Hey so i had a look in the search button but didn't really get anything i was looking for.

Basically im wanting all rights to any photos taken of me.

Im not sure if this is how it works but if i print out a document and we both sign it would that be legally binding or do i need to get a lawyer involved? If you just need to print it out and both sign it does anyone have a template they could send me?

Im having my first set of photos done and id rather have the rights to them. Would make me feel better knowing im not going to turn up anywhere else.

No decent photographer should keep any of your pictures unless he asks you to (and might give you a discount for putting your pictures on his website to showcase his work).  You can ask to provide this in a written format, although I have never heard anyone to do it. 

The worst case scenario is you to destroy the document in 10 years time and in 15 to discover he kept your pictures - I heard of this kind of things, although not in this time frame.  What I am trying to say is that anything is possible if a person is that 'twisted'.

What you need is a piece of paper signed by the photographer formally relinquishing the copyright and transferring it over to you - things like 'model releases' and suchlike don't give you the ownership of anything, and unless it specifically says this then the photographer still has the right to use them. It's not going to be easy to get decent photographer to do this though, and I think your best chance is to take your own memory card and ask them to shoot on that so you can take it away with you. Or find one that's credible and professional enough to realise that pissing people off is going to do their business and their reputation damage that isn't worth it.

The other thing you can do is take them yourself, since then you automatically own the copyright as the creator of the images :).

What you need is a "Work for Hire" agreement that states all creative works as a result of the employment belong to the employer (you).

This contract is written for a US market, but our copyright laws are the same as the US, but our copyright laws are largely the same since UK and US are both signatories to the Berne convention. (I used to do this shit for a living, LOL)

No, that's not correct. The OP is not employing the photographer - he is self employed and she's his customer. There is no employer-employee relationship.

Documents like the one described apply to situations where work is created (such as news footage filmed by a cameraman working for the BBC) which doesn't belong to the person who created it, but to the organisation who employed and paid him to do so as their representative and on their behalf.

Hmm, my understanding is that neither needs to be employed by the other as the above agreement will cover any work produced under employment (which self-employment will count as.) At any rate the template agreement will stand up in law as a contract that passes the ownership of commissioned works to the commissioner (ie the OP) rather than the creator.
