Did you do any checks to establish this person was at the address he claimed to be, or just pack up and go on the strength of a phone call? If it's the latter this is going to keep happening, and posting about it here won't help.

There is no reason to not know what can be posted, because it's all in the posting rules.

It doubtless is obvious to you because you were there, but as none of us were, a post which makes no mention of security checks whatsoever gives little away in terms of information about whether they were done. People can only go on what you give them and you might be surprised at how many otherwise sensible adults will go hurtling off on a wild goose chase without doing any due diligence at all when the pound signs start a-flashing.

Since in these cases it's preventable, it's helpful to know because it makes things easier and clearer for everyone. A bit like the posting rules, which is why it says 'Please read the board-specific rules before posting' under the Warnings header.
