This job is just too expensive...ugh
« on: 31 December 2012, 12:27:37 am »
I hope this dosn't go down as a meaningless rant but I'm just sitting here in my hotel thinking this job is simply TOO expensive.

Everyday I have hotel expenses to be paid, not to mention the fact that ads keep needing to be paid as well. I just spent $50 on a 'trial' ad for 10 days and now it's expired and I have to pay another $59-119 to renew the ad. I'm thinking to myself I just paid the damn thing.

I feel like I'm being pimped by the cost of hotels and people who run these ad websites. And it's more frustrating realizing that money I made just this past Monday is already gone and on what? Hotels. I haven't gotten to buy nothing special for myself but a pair of earrings and some candles. Everything else is just hotels, gas and ads.

This isnt anything new and you have been in the business long enough to know the score.

We have to take all costings into our prices and charge accordingly or ................... get out.

I know this sounds rather harsh but its something Ive heard over and over again over the years in your posts.

You are in a sticky situation just now because one of your clients has asked you to remain in the area .... but did you get payment from him for this extention of your stay.  If yes, then fine you should have something to fall back on.  If no, why not, is he going to come up with it or is he going to be a no show.  These are all questions we have to ask ourselves and figure out if it is worthwhile staying.  Perhaps it wasnt a sensible choice.

With a new year coming it is perhaps a good time to figure out if you want another year like your last one.  If you do then you just got to get on with it.................... and if not, then you just got to get out of the business and find something else to do.

I don't spend a penny on ads. I rely on just AW. I would be in trouble if that site collapsed while on tour though lol.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

What Lady Lust said.

Anyone not working from home needs to shag so many men in order to pay someone else's mortgage or some hotel's costs. If your number of clients is at most barely above that, you need to think about what else you're getting out of this. If the answer is not much - and that's what it's sounded like throughout the usernames and years - it's time to get out of the cycle.

That doesn't necessarily mean quitting entirely. It could mean 'only working in places I want to go on holiday to' or 'treating it as an additional income while doing something else' or...

'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

Absoluety. I like to go to places that are both fun and workable. Let's drop the 'think about quittng' solution. That's not going to happen. I have a friend that always tells me I can't do this forever, and this that and the 3rd and yadda yadda yadda everything under the sun.

I tell him that I haven't even been in the industry 5 years...but am approaching it. Most small businesses fail within the 1st 5 years. However, I feel I am just beginning to get 'there'. As in, having multiple overnights throughout the year/being flown out to other places, etc. I don't want to stop just when things are getting good.

But the fact that advertising is so expensive along with hotels (which actually aren't much so becauae I stay in NICE hotels for big discounts, I know how to find the best deals. Turn a $129 bill into a $50 bill  8) is not of my doing. The good news is the money does always pay itself back though. A $30 ad I paid last month has returned itself several times over.

Depends on how you're managing your costs, maybe weigh up which adverts are returning the cash, .......................

This is what you dont seem to be doing.  You have to factor costs of ads in to your price for services, if not then perhaps you are not scaling your prices at the right level to make your business profitable.

If after 5 years in the business things still arent balancing themselves out I would be asking myself several questions.

Blaine, if people are confused it's because you've posted many times previously about how you're getting out of the business soon - you can't expect members here to be mindreaders and they have no way of knowing you've changed your mind? You have done nothing but moan and complain about clients, expenses and everything else to the point where many of us find it hard to understand why you would put yourself through the stress; if it was the first time we'd heard it rather than the hundredth it might be different but it's the same thing over and over again and has been for as long as any of us can remember.

Businesses have costs. You can't expect to run a business dealing in luxury services (as in things people want rather than need) and do it for free - I know ads don't come cheap in the States but a lot of other things do compared with here, and yet we don't constantly bang on about the price of hotels, travel, photographs and so on because they're all necessities depending on how you work.

Apart from that, if you're now saying it all pays for itself and everything's hunkydory anyway, what exactly was the point of starting this thread? And what reason would there be to not just lock it now, since apparently the problem has solved itself?

you've changed your name so many times now I'm totally confused as to who you really  are and what is actually the problem any more     Blain, americano,  joey, american pie.    Not that there nothing wrong with changing your name but at least let us know

So that way if you want people help /advice  then try to keep a user name for at least a week or so that way if your moaning about something at least we can look at your past posts and see if we can help or not
otherwise were all just wasting our time rehashing the same old stuff over and over

Everything in life cost  just going about doing your everyday business has a cost  you just have to work out how to  minimise the cost and maximise the profit to yourself  and if you cant then  maybe your in the wrong business

I suppose if you get a good return then is worth while, if not then maybe explore different avenues. While escorting at home if it's quiet then no loss. I can understand how frustrating it can be not profiting. It's all about getting the most for our money. Like I've learned that viva street does better than aw. So more money is put towards viva street not much advertising with aw. Sorry about what I am going to say but, no ones forcing you to escort so why complain like this.
