You're a student anyway though right? I never ever ever got taxed as a student, and if I did by mistake I called and got it refunded
I *think* there is an upper limit to what you can earn per week as as student (and it's not very much).

Tax rebates are a wonderful thing though  ;D

I think this is how it used to work;

Students started out not being taxed, but if their income went over the normal, minimum threshold they would start to be taxed. Any grants/bursaries/loans etc were tax free, so with most students only working part-time they'd have to put in quite a few hours, and have quite a decent income before they went over that threshold. I also seem to remember that because you weren't initially taxed, once over that income it would be deducted without any allowance ie from the whole amount.

You can correct me if I'm wrong!

Hmmm OK. I worked full time earning low wages though haha so I guess you are probably right! Anyway it's worth a check I guess. That was the joys of being a student :)

The threshold of ?7000 or whatever is valid for everyone, not just student. Earnings under that treshold are not taxed, and everything over it is taxed. I used to work while a student 1-2 years ago and did pay tax on my income and carried on paying tax in exactly the same way after graduation.

Yep, it's simply that the grant/bursary/loans are not classed as taxable which creates the 'tax' free appearance.
