Rate my Website?
« on: 24 June 2011, 09:51:55 pm »
this might be in wrong place - apologies if so.
When i did my website (never done one before) i wanted to ask for opinions on it, but it seemed a bit cheeky. a couple of people kindly commented anyway.
I just wondered if there was any interest in a section/thread, where you could  put your link and get constructive criticism from those with time and inclination to do so.  It's not like you can ask the mum's at the school gate (usually) or other non-biz friends.

I think it's a great website Kizzie.I'm very sure you'll do well with it. Clear, easy to use, simple and  pretty "friendly"   looking.I  like it because it's not one of those  "sterile looking" web designs full of airbrushed & photoshopped pics that I see too often. U  see a lot of your personality coming thru  and that  you're a 100%  genuine independent woman running your own business  (not part of "something"). I like it.

In the begining I use to handle everything to a webdesigner and have him create a design that would remain the same throught the whole year but I've discovered I get more business with these "versatile or more dynamic websites" that allow me to change backgrounds, text, pics and updates as often as I want. I've discovered it keep guys more "intrigued" (thus clicking in it more often). I've also discovered that regulars who had stopped calling me tend to "remember me"  and call me again whenever I put new pictures....lol! Clients are interesting creatures :-)

I may be wrong, but I don't think Kizzie was asking about her own site (which I like too as it's clear and easy to navigate, although there are a lot of spelling and punctuation errors and I would maybe suggest some hardcore proofreading) but whether we should have a dedicated thread, maybe even in a board not publicly viewable, for members who want to get feedback on their ads or sites? This one will do nicely, to be fair, it's just a matter of where it should go.

hi, thanks for the comments but Amy was quite right, it was a general 'any interest' post.
But have to say, really valuable the connents ive just read.  I really need to have a good proof read re spellings (ouch) and punctuation (no surprise there - ny grammar has been called 'challenging' in the past  :-[ )
but a really big thanks!

It's lovely, nice font you have chosen and concise too.

However it would be better to put some pictures on the other pages too, not just the gallery page x x

I have merged this with Kizzie's thread, since I'm pretty sure that was that was the point behind it (and we have a few more we can gather up when I have a minute).

I like the font too, I must admit that I'm not keen on the 'cut-and-paste-the-services-list-off-Adultwork' page and prefer it all to be written in prose, but so many people do this now it's neither here nor there. There's a 'g' missing from the end of 'Spanking'.

I agree with LouLou about the pics - I think the site is great, and coudl just do with looking a bit more decorative (and pics will take care of that no problem :)).

Friendly paragraphs of info about what you do/like rather than a clinical list :)

Sorry, I just mean written like a normal sentence/paragraph rather than like a shopping list. It does mean that you wouldn't be able to have hundreds of things like there is on the list, but there's no need to include absolutely everything - if a service is particularly important to a punter he'll ask, and some ladies don't specify services at all (I do, because I can't stand the thought of prolonged phone conversations answering the same old questions).

Mine is here, if it helps to show what I mean  :).

Amy is quite right!  I put a so called 'shopping ' list  on mine as I hoped it would make it crystal clear what I do and don't offer.

But, the more I think about it the more wrong this is and I don't like it. The point of writing proper paragraphs and stuff is it allows you and your personality to shine through your writing! Rather than  a punter reading a menu and going  Oh ill have that for , starter, that for main  etc etc.

I  am going to get rid of it soon but my web master has had a tantrum about my requests  so I can't do much until I have the cms!

Anyway, here is the link to mine: www.lorissacharlesofherts.co.uk. Just ignore that  list page hehe.

Paris I would gladly swap banners with you if that is okay?

Edit: corrected URL

Thank you for the comments.

It does look a bit like a shopping list doesnt it, lol

I only started building it yesterday, like i said its not finished yet but I will definately change the list idea.
