I am watching this thread as I’ve got a similar situation going on - full time civvy job plus part time student living in an expensive luxury apartment, the neighbours found out and gossiped about me on a WhatsApp communal chat group. Some really nasty and some telling the nasty ones to fuck off and leave me alone. Nothing happened yet, that was end of November. Very very curious what your landlord said please keep posted. X

By law she cannot kick her out (if she's under a a tennancy contract) till land lady doesn't prove she's breaking her lease. A neighbour saying she has too many visitors is no proof of anything. Land lady can not renew her contract (once it expires) but she cannot kick her out unless she has solid proof of anything.

One of the other neighbours (not the busy body one) does have cameras. They do capture people walking to my door. So I guess they could use this as proof in court and all but my visitors do not bother anyone, not that I know of anyway  ???

That’s still not proof, you might as well just be really slutty and those guys could be off tinder. The proof here would be the ads where you are clearly identifiable and also a staged booking if they want to dig deep enough.

So sorry to hear about your situation  :( Put up plenty of photos of family and friends, and also work/education certificates which clearly display your full name, and leave a couple of utility bills lying around. I used to do this when I worked from my home before landlord and estate agent inspections. It’d make them question if you really were allowing strange men in your home would you really have those kinds of personal possessions there for all to see? Agree with the coursework and books too. Even have it a tiny bit untidy when they come and you can apologise for the mess but you’ve been swamped with essay deadlines these past couple of weeks. Could you arrange for a friend to pop over during their visit? To drop of some uni books, and this would show that you do have legitimate visitors? I hope all goes okay x

Thank you all for your replies and ideas, it's really helped. Landlady's coming in 6 hours (gave me very short notice-about 21hrs), could be that she just decided to get it done and over with (the visit I mean, so she can confirm the property hasn't been wrecked and have peace of mind). I was thinking of secretly recording the conversation with my phone. What do you think? Should I also disable my ad for now? What do you think? Weird incident----Yesterday I had a guy book, drive to my address, confirmed my door from the street, then he just drove off. Now I am wondering if I got set up.

He could just be an address collector, lots of them going about and especially atm but I can see why your worried.

I would record yes but doesn’t she have a legal right to know that your recording the convo? I’m not sure about this law but I would imagine that if the recording were to be used in any way then she would had to have been aware of it at the time?

I’m sure others on here will have more information regarding this.

Did your landlord contact you yesterday before or after the address collector/possible decoy client?

I’m really sorry what’s happening with your home. I know it’s been mentioned before but the best thing is not to work from your home address. I have tried it many times and it’s no good for your own mental health. You can be discrete, low volume, quiet and don’t get involved with your neighbours but always! something goes wrong. I find out most of clients have no idea about discretion, parking where they shouldn’t and don’t understand this is our job and our working name shouldn’t be disclosed to anyone in the building.
I live in luxury apartment and love my home. There’s only 2 clients who are allowed to my place and they know my real name. I have known them and their families for many years.
Can’t you  just book hotels and start touring? Understand many ladies can’t afford this but my advice is to never work from your home. There is nothing worse then address collectors, look and goes and unannounced visits from idiots  when you’re working from your home.  I believe working from my own home made me ill and I was paranoid all the time.
Good luck and please keep strong xx

Working for home can work out. I’ve worked from home (and that home has changed a number of times!) for the past 10 years and I can count on 1 hand how many I’ve had turned up unannounced and always found guys to be discreet. I only had a problem in 1 particular flat where the guy opposite me found out, or become suspicious at least but I take part responsibility for that for choosing the wrong flat (his door too close to mine, ours being the only flats on the floor etc...)

Maybe I’ve just been lucky and for 6 months I did try renting a separate work flat (when going through the above) but I was more stressed than ever as I had to work way more to cover all my expenses which doubled overnight! Even then I struggled to cover them and that was a real worry!

Now my situation is about to change and because I’m moving in with my partner I will be touring hotels full time. But if this hadn’t have come about I would’ve happily continued working from home and touring for 2 or 3 nights a month to top up my income

Good luck Love Sex Dreams - I’ve really felt for you hearing all this but have confidence you’ll be able to cast all her fears to one side and prove you are a good and worthy tenant x

Thanks again all, she came and things are not looking good for me. She said she will review the CCTV and get back to me. It was a very unpleasant conversation. I'm too upset to write but will update in the coming days. Please pray for me, 2020 hasn't really started well  :'(

Oh dear. Sorry to hear this. It will all work out in the end though wherever you have to work from.

I'm so sorry this problem has come into your life.

Just remember that in a few short weeks or months you will be living somewhere else, this will all be far behind you, and you will have long since forgotten about all these pricks. Big hugs x

Isn't it illegal for someone else's private CCTV to be viewing/monitoring someone else's property, or communal areas?
