Boosting self esteem (prices)
« on: 25 March 2013, 02:01:17 pm »
I understand there are many of you who know me and ask the question "why have I gone for such silly prices with a sugar daddy" etc.

My very first attempt at at indie at 18 failed. I was so naive and hadnt a clue about prices. I will never forget what one client said to me. "Boost your prices, it's chicken feed, but keep them low for me  ;D"

When I then did indie work with my ex, (who ineffectively pimped me), I set the price at ?160 an hour. If I went back to indie just now again, I would set it at ?150 per hour.

I have tried to reflect this when I saw Sugar Daddies, but I learnt the hard way they are just cheapskate hagglers. I just thought that it was easier setting up the profile on that site, but the amount of timewasters and idiots. Not to mention abuse. Have had men endlessly say to me that I am not worth the price (my price), go and sell myself on the street because I am a dirty smack addict (wrong) etc.

Now, I just want to stand up for myself and say "I want to set the prices for when I start over as an indie". But I dont know what to do about the self esteem side of things. For too long, guys said I was not worth the price, along with other hurtful comments.

How can you boost self esteem for working in this job? I know you have to have a thick skin anyway, so I have learnt to deal with the mental side of things with clients making foul comments e.g. about looks or weight, but I just need to get a boost to believe in myself about the price side of things, because for too long now, I feel I am not worth my price  :'(

I have deleted any SD numbers on my phone, told myself I am better than that and tell myself I would never go back to working in a sleazy sauna. Is ?150 an hour too much? (Not asking for anyone to judge, just needing some advice because people moaned at my prices in the past)

Hi dont let idiots get to you, guys like that would moan at ?10 for an overnight lol.

Check what other girls are charging in your area and use as an idea of what to charge.

You might find some months your rates are cheap others there expensive, but unless your not getting the work I would keep rates at whatever you decide.

LL, I know you are in Scotland.  I dont know about the east coast but you would not get much work at 150 GBP an hour in and around Glasgow.  Im not saying it is impossible but guys are just not willing to pay that and you might struggle.  Try if you like and see how it goes.  It might even chip away at your self esteem even more if guys continually said on calls "Im not paying THAT much".  :(
Beauty is nothing to do with having a pretty face.
It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart,
And most importantly a beautiful soul.

Hi LL low self esteem happens for many reasons and these people have not helped i have thankfully not come across such nasty people in this industry yet!!! i really don,t know why some men feel they have to lash out and say nasty things to you. Just hangup.  All u can do is look after yourself and stay healthy and dress smart surely you do this anyway as being in this industry there is a little amount of maintenance, i believe. Your prices should reflect you and your area and forget the past and the "pimp" you are now your own person. I don,t know yyour area so not sure but read what the other lady said it may be a little high, settle for a happy medium maybe 120 or 130 at least its your own.

Of course it doesnt help when theres girls offering ?50 for an hour.

I charge ?130 for a 1hr outcall, few months ago I was ?20 cheaper than others in my area now Im ?30 dearer, I could lower my rates (as dont get much work) but then everyone elses would prob go and put theirs up again.

The only one who can decide what your worth is you.

Your self-esteem shouldn't be reliant on (a) your prices or (b) client comments, it should be based on how you see yourself as a person.

The other question is is your business successful?do you feel you provide a good service? If the answer is yes to both that's all you need to know.

Just not to take things what clients tell you to heart. It goes through one ear and out the other with me. Also I know many like shopping around for quality at the right price for them. If you have more quiet days then to lower prices as the competition is great. For an elite high class escort wears expensive things and groom in a certain way with business men.  To me comparing clients escorting with sugar daddies who are rich can't do. Clients in escorting come from all walks of life financially. That is why.

Prices really just depend on how many clients you want to see per week. I might be able to get 1 client per month at ?500 per hour working in the City of London (if I advertised right) - but it would be a big effort and I'd be spending a lot on ads. But if that's what I wanted, I would go for it.

Having only one day per week (or rather, about 3 days per month) now of available time for escorting means I need to encourage more inquiries while being much less flexible about times, so my rates are set accordingly.

To be honest, if ?160-ish is an 'average' rate for the City of London (an area in which bankers-about-whom-I'll-not-say-anything-negative-as-they-are-great-paying-clients are raking in zillion pound bonuses every year on top of bonkers salaries even in this recession), I'm not quite sure what I personally would charge on the other side of the country or in a smaller city in, say, Scotland. If I tried to charge the same rate, I would probably personally expect to receive much fewer inquiries (which might be fine as living costs would be HUGELY reduced, too). But then, I don't offer any specialised services and/or a porn star experience or anything; if I did, maybe that would justify my rate to a wider base of clients.

As already mentioned, it's best to thoroughly search across multiple listings sites and directories (NOT just Adultwork as the many fake profiles will skew your results) and review sites to see what rates are being charged and what rates are being paid.

For example, in London, many Pnet reviews (I don't read them anymore but did initially find them useful as a bit of an intro into what serious punters prefer) would say that they 'expected more' if they paid ?200+ per hour. E.g. they'd expect a luxury apartment, fancy toiletries, a really nice bathroom, big soft towels etc, not to mention a perfect GFE (possibly including A-levels at no extra fee) with generous extra time allowed for their showers. If I were able to offer all that (and able to be much more flexible with my availability), I'd feel more confident putting my rates up - but even then I might still keep them the same as they are now, cos isn't it better to get more serious inquiries than you can handle than to be sitting by a quiet phone?

Many reviews, I found, of girls charging below ?90-100 per hour in London were more likely to include complaints about bad showers, council flats, etc etc. *Not always*, I should quickly add! But it helped me get a rough idea of where I fit on the scale, as it were, offering what I do.

Strawberry is right.  You cannot charge a set price just to help your self esteem or listen to clients negative comments.

if a client does start making negative comments in a purposeful way then tell him he is welcome to leave and get off the bed and get dressed.  He chose you so is playing games if he starts this.

I charge average rates for my area (much lower than yours) but this does nto mean I think less of myself or that I have nos elf esteem.  I have tons of the stuff but have learnt to be as busy as I want I needed to lower my prices

I will say if you self esteem is that low at the moment then do not do this work for a while.  It wont help.  It could even make you feel worse especially if you read forums or field reports as some guys will pick on any little things and make it sound so much worse.

To do this job you do need oodles of self esteem and confidence or huys will see it and try and take advantage of it.

Pop along to a local womens project as they do some great free self esteem and assertiveness classes that can do wonders for you.  Every area has a womans project and anyone can just pop in and when you get there you will be suprised at how many women go to these places.

If you dod ecide to go ahead with this work then I suggest you look at prices of girls with lots of good feedback in your area witht he same body type and services as yourself and charge accordingly.  After all there is no point looking at a profile that charges ?150 if she has been on a year and has no feedback at all as she probably gets little to no work as even with phone bookings some will want to book via AW.  You have to rpice yourself within a decent range for your area that men are willing to pay.  yes you might feel better charging more but you will soon feel worse if you get no bookings at all (as we all have that inner voice that will ignore the fact we charge too much and will think OMG noone fancies me).  Its a natural thought process.
?150 is a lot for most parts of Scotland if you want to get a decent amount of bookings but if you are only looking for the odd one now and again then it will be fine.  As I said look at other women with your body type who offer the same services as you and who have a lot of feedback and then work out an average price on what they charge
