Does anyone work from a single bed?
« on: 07 February 2022, 08:36:46 am »
Hey!

This might be a bit random but does anyone at the moment or in the past work using a single bed?

I have an opportunity to use a work room in a lovely area and apartment with a decent sized room but the only hesitation is it has a single bed and unlikely that a double bed would be ever put in that room.

I’m not particularly big (size 10) and I don’t have a big chest so I dont take up too much room on the bed but I was wondering what people’s perspectives were and if it would put clients off and especially returning clients, a lot of my work comes from returning clients but I don’t want this to be a turn off or uncomfortable for anyone.

Anyone’s advise and opinions would be appreciated before I take up the offer on the room :)

Miggi I think a single bed would be ok in the main and not an impossibilty but let's be honest a fair number of our clients are not slim size 10 and would probably take up the whole bed space by themselves!  Not very practical when you think of it like that.

You remind me of an outcall I did some years ago to a budget hotel and the client had the tiniest room I had ever seen. Yes a single bed was all we had and it was quite amusing but I only had to spend an hour there so not the same as taking all clients into a mini sized room and 2ft6ins bed.  I am not sure if any hotels have rooms with just a single bed now.

Hmm yeah, I know what you mean and it really isn’t the most ideal and especially for a bigger framed man. It’s such a shame as there are so many other positives to this venture! Maybe I can somehow persuade to get a small double in there which would be perfect.

Thank you for your input though :)

I'm size 10/12. I've worked a single bed. It's a bit embarrassing but clients don't care. It's fine with a mattress with a firm edge where you don't roll off.

If space is a problem a lift up Ottoman bed can be used as storage so maybe you could squeeze a double or small double?

I have worked in the past in a really tiny room with a small bed and a little night stand next to it. That small was that room I didn't had space at all, but I didn't care at all, you can find various positions to 'work' with the bed and space. :)) I wasn't embarrassed to receive  clients there as it was my only accommodation at the moment. I've made my money and go home after..

It wouldn't work for me personally.
Be prepared for some clients to walk.
It would be better to buy a blow up double mattress and do them on that if you can push the bed against the wall.

I'd only consider it if the room was otherwise lovely and not poky, plus I find bed height can be an issue, and singles are often lower? It would also need to be sturdy!

I'd find it too cramped personally but could make do and mend for one day.

I couldn't and wouldn't even though i am small. Clients may be huge and space is a virtue in this industry

Thank you ladies, I think the fact the majority of you have said it’s not going to be suitable and that I’m also doubting that it would work has finalised my thoughts as for it not being sustainable.

Thank you for your replies xx

I think if you mainly offer 15-30mins the issue will not be as big as if you would offer 1-2h meets
