Do you usually have change?
« on: 26 July 2016, 05:34:01 pm »
I keep a bit of cash on the premises but not a lot. I always make sure the client is happy with my fee before I agree to a booking.
So I've just had one booking with a lovely guy but he only had ?20 notes so he gave me ?80 instead of ?70. And while I had no change, I said he could have 10 minutes extra. He agreed to this and wasn't bothered but I felt bad.
What do you do in this situation?

My pricing is devisable by twenty so I don't have the problem but I think you handled it well and he was happy, if not you could say I will give you a ?10 discount if you visit again. As you're not a shop the clients can't always expect you to have the correct change. I wouldn't worry about it.

Both of you seem to have got what you want out of what you did, so don't feel bad.

But if your rate isn't a multiple of ?20, it's an extremely good idea to have enough change for the inevitable times when someone turns up clutching a wad of twenties.

I'd have a ?10 handy.

When going outcall I always have an emergency cash purse containing a few ?1 coins (can be used for parking), ?10 note and a ?20 note, plus 1 credit card. The ?10 and the ?20 can be used as change if need be. I don't make the location of the purse obvious, it's a really boring colour, it's hidden by the paraphenalia in my bag and the fee goes in a different place.

Might be worth having a drawer with a ?10, ?5, ?20 in somewhere that isn't in a direct line to the door.

Nope. I'm a hole to rent not a hole in the wall. Or a hairdresser.  ;D

I receive it as the tip it seems to be. How nice, thank you sweety.  :-*

Lol, yes, that's what I thought. That's why I always get them to agree the fee beforehand  :)

Most cash based businesses recognise the need for change and keep some accordingly - I don't really see why ours is any different. If I didn't have the correct change for something in a shop or a pub I wouldn't expect to just give them the next note up and walk away.

Cash machines don't always give out tens so I would be keeping one around just in case. If I wanted to get ?10 more per booking out of people I'd just put my rates up :).

I have stated on my add that 'no cash is kept on the premises ' please bring the correct money. Simply because I dont fancy getting robbed.  If someone comes who needs change I give them a choice of 10mins extra or 10 off the next visit. They usual tell me to keep it 😁

The other day a guy came with 2 50s and wanted a half hour. I had no change and it was a Sunday so no corner shops open. I begrudgingly offered a quickie for 50. Felt so shitty about it.

I tend to visa debit most of my purchases but have always tended to have at least ?30 in change on me. Not that I would ever pull out my stash / purse in front of them. Its weird I have often thought of putting up prices to 45 for 15 minutes, or 65 for 30 etc but I've been so put off by the fact that other women  always seem to charge in multiples of 10! Is this for a change reason?

I charge in multiples of 20 for this reason.

All my rates are easily divisible for this reason, as well. I do not carry change.
