Address collectors/time wasters or someone more sinister?
« on: 03 February 2019, 07:33:20 pm »
What do we think about guys who make a booking via text then cancel almost immediately when given the post code when they knew which area you’d be in?

I’ve had this happen a LOT lately along with a barrage of fake bookings.

Coincidence or a bitter client seeking revenge?

I think it is a number of reasons some enjoy messing us around completely on purpose and like to know where we are even though you could say you are 2 mins from the tesco etc but know not good enough for them they want exact.

So yes some are sinister i believe for example dodgy client, a local pimp or pottential robber.

But some cases are just simply changed there mind or just got the go ahead from another worker they had as first option or you would not give postcode unless they made a booking and they are nosy to know where you are.

I never trust any customers motives for anything now just treat everyone as a potential timewaster or something worse especially if you have no evidence they even pay for services least with lots of adultwork feedback you know they have paid for services but if no account you just never know anything.

Why though do they want to know the address if they know they are going to cancel? To piss us off?

It’s really getting me down. The last guy that done it said he was outside then after ten min I rang him and he made up a ridiculous excuse and I could hear people laughing in the background.

Are people really that sad that they get enjoyment from that?

I had spates of this some years ago, someone who booked me recently told me he'd done something similar to me years ago - this was in my phone notes however I use deposits these days and he was booking outcall this time.

Apparently he got to town, realised the traffic system wasn't quite as easy as he'd envisaged (I do give good directions, postcode, street names and general info), and his second thoughts nerves made it easy to cancel.

I keep getting guys calling booking and saying they’ll be an hour maybe more then never showing at al. It’s annoying. I was getting messages of the same few guys of aw asking about bookings and then seeming infested and wanting to book but then not. I give them two chances now then block because it’s odd.

I only advertise on AW and I ask they put a booking through on there too so if they are a timewaster I have the satisfaction of leaving the bad feedback. Some will think it's a faff but I don't care.. If they're serious about seeing me they'll spend a minute to make a booking.

I’m only on AW too. No I always get them to give me a quick phone, then generally communicate through text after.

I’ve literally had hundreds of texts about bookings then when I ask them to call they are ‘out for dinner’ or ‘driving’ then never hear anything back!

It’s interesting that someone can log on to aw and find the number, then text while driving. I highly doubt someone would do it if they were out for dinner with people either.

I really wonder the motive for address collectors is anyway- so they can creep around outside in car parks?

Free entertainment, wank fodder, joy at speaking to an escort. Who knows.

You could make the confirmation process more challenging by making them confirm more than once eg by voice when they've passed such and such landmark-then again when they've reached the destination. I forget about them and go about my business, eating my dinner, shopping whatever till I get those multiple calls. It works ok as most wasters are too lazy to even listen. I don't chase no shows as your reaction may be part of their delight.

The car parks would be jammed to the gills if these randoms actually got out of their fluffy slippers to stand outside.

I’ve had three fake booking in the past 24 hour

I have had stages on these too but it passed seems worse certaun areas then others at times but i also have days when it goes smooth.

I now do not turn down other bookings but will space them a little apart and the one that does not cancel mostly i have not turned others away. So in a way it is kind of double booking but it had to be done because i had many pissing me about. Only ones i mostly do not do this now is ones i see they have plenty of feedback so i know they usually pay.

Funnily enough never had 2 at the same time though at the postcode just shows there is so many weirdos who book but i do get people to re confirm a bit nearer there time slot so if any do that with no intention of turning up then they are clearly only ones who want to convince you are genuine but it avoids the ones who book that are too lazy to cancel so do not re confirm.

Either way you will never escape these types but do not turn away other ones that want same time or near to it as you will just keep losing out and suffering the mental torture so try and have a back up plan or reserve in if you can.

I would always cancel others though if first one turned up say someone books at 5pm for 1 hr and 2nd one books for 5.30 then at 5pm i would cancel the 5.30 one and try and put the time book...i would not do what they do because there is some genuines out there as otherwise none of us would earn anything.

So many of them are in this text culture and do not want to call but want it done all over text. I do not operate like this so most of them will be ignored or told to call. At least 60 to 70% of them do not call back but a few do.

What exactly do they need to communicate by text after the booking has been made for? I thought that was the point of the phone call to arrange? The next contact from them should be a phone call to say they have arrived at the booked time and for directions where to come to (Once I can see they have actually arrived)

Other than the bored men at home who amuse themselves messing us around (or trying to) I think some men like to think they have some power over us. Sad oh so sad.

My screening is simple but very strict, including only contacting me by a phone call if they are not known to me. I advertise in a few places but reckon my main contacts start at AW but all adverts tell them to make that call and if they are not prepared to stick to my tried and tested method of arranging a booking then they don't get even a hint of my address or post code.

I know some sps do everything by text and if it works for them then good but it is not my way. I could never consider meeting someone unless I had heard them speak first.

My nightmare scenario is a man getting my full address down to the door number and not turning up but it has not happened in 10 years (yikes! have I just tempted fate!)
