Potential Documentary
« on: 12 February 2016, 03:58:11 am »
Hello,

I'm a university student studying documentary film making and I would like to make a documentary on the escort/punter subculture here in the UK.

I'd like to portray a positve, non-biased view of an escorts life, and hopefully knock down some stereotypes and bring clarity to what I believe is mass media driven stigma.

It would be an interview to a camera if you're comfortable with your face being shown, alternatively we could correspond by email first to build some trust, and if necessary blur out your face/use a mask. What is most important is the content. If you have something to say, if you have something you want to convey about your work please get in touch, we live in an un-enlightened world, and it is time light was shed on this industry that wasn't essentially propaganda that plays on people's own base thoughts.

If so please either message me privately on here, or comment on this thread. Even if you are uninterested, I'm eager to see opinions on whether you'd be either curious to see such a film or not, and reasons and misgivings in regards to that.

Thank you for reading this, I look forward to hopefully some replies.

- Eyeline.

I hope you intend to pay us handsomely for our time. Why should we help you with your coursework for free?

Proper, professional outfits with shows backed by major networks struggle to find women willing to appear on camera for programs like A Very British Brothel.

Yes - Eyeline, assuming you've read this thread already we'll start with you supplying a proper email address (rather than the free Gmail you've used to register) as well as details of your course and who will be supervising this. We have vulnerable people here, and random internet strangers materialising and announcing they want to film us because it'll be really great doesn't cut it. Where will this film be shown and to whom?

I'm sure most of us will also be interested to know what you will be offering by way of renumeration, since I don't imagine you were seriously expecting people for whom time literally is money to come along and participate just for the fun of it.

I was just dipping my toe into the water here, didn't expect such a quick response!

In short, you will be paid for your time.
I study Filmmaking at Northern Film School, a film school financed by Leeds Beckett University, where we are taught and supervised by leading industry professionals. I can provide a university email if needed - s.sira3832@student.leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

The film will only be shown at our own private screenings with our lecturers and fellow students, and will not be made available to a wider market until it is signed off by our lecturers and anyone and every participating gives us legal permission to take it to festivals and distribution companies.

And as for "punter/escort subculture" - that's a poor choice of words, perhaps a better choice would be a fresh view on escorting with a specific view on how it affects daily routine as well as a look at the punters themselves.

I hope this clears up everything, if not, ask please, there is not one iota of information that I'm not willing to share

Lovely. So when you say 'paid for your time,' you do mean at our usual escort hourly rate?

I do yes, and I see when "filming" is a service, its usually charged as extra, so that would also be included.

Has your proposal been submitted to your university Ethics Committee and what was the outcome please?

Why don't you interview punters and make a documentary on "men who pay for sex" (for a change). Just go into a punter forum and ask them to "be interviewed infront of a camera and if they feel comfortable with their face being shown".

Much more interesting idea.
Mornings were made for sleeping, wild sex and bacon.

Actually that was my first idea, so I went to [punting forum] and asked. I got banned almost instantly, so I had to go a different route :/
