After reading the whole thread I don't think I'll bother watching it thanks - especially if it has an anti message, sounds pretty awful and I would never want to work in those kind of conditions. Sounds blatantly exploitative.

I do however wish they would change the laws in the UK - someone mentioned say up to 4 women working from a property. I would love to set up a small parlour for myself and employ or rent rooms to some other ladies - hire security etc. It would for me, remove the isolation I feel at times and increase safety all round. It's my little dream!

My personal view is that the age limit should be raised to avoid exploitation. I know there is an 18 year old who commented on this but I just don't feel you can at that age make an informed choice about this job that is not going to have a life-long impact. I myself started at 35. I also don't think you have to be damaged to do this work. I am engaged in a straight, monogamous relationship which is very healthy for me and just what I want. I started the work due to financial reasons and have discovered a flair for it and I love several aspects of the job.

Sorry to get off track - wish someone would make an accurate, non-sensational documentary about the industry really!
MM xx

What else do you recommend? I was homeless, no benefits as I am an EU citizen, and little to no chance of getting a job as I only had high school qualifications, dyspraxia & social anxiety that means "normal" jobs can be tough for me and frankly am only really worth something within academia. Thankfully I'm now saved with my place at uni and a student loan but when I started this I had nothing. I have also lived a life of abuse, rape, poverty, and having to look after my siblings from a young age as my Mum was too out of it to, so I'd like to think I can't be compared to your average 18 year old (not that they should be prohibited either). As I said, all an age limit would do is force us to have absolutely nothing to turn to, and surprise surprise, there are much older women who are also exploited. It's illegal to sell sex if you're under 18 yet I know of many 16/17 year olds, even younger, that have started this. Do you really think an age limit is going to make a difference? Doesn't really make a lot of sense to me and the idea sounds about as sensationalist as the documentary does. It would fix nothing. Sorry but if I can get married and start a family and vote, get a tattoo, so on and so forth then I can be a prostitute. Yes, a lot of the men that go for those my age aren't nice. Are all of your clients nice? Come on, it's the bloody sex industry. A large number of these men aren't going to be nice, regardless of what age bracket they're interested in.

All these ideas do is make things harder for other working girls that older WGs deem somehow lesser than. It's bloody ridiculous, we're supposed to help each other out, not be in favour of legislation that forces some of us further down the rabbit hole. We get very little support from those outside of this community, all we get is judgement and having to guard the secret of what we do with our lives, especially if this isn't a main career choice. To think that some within the industry also treat us that way.. It's one of the few jobs I can do, and one of the few avenues I can use to make money, save myself and become the person I bloody well know I can be. Sadly, this country's government isn't interested in making it easy for me to get there in more "legitimate" ways. For many of us, yes this was a last resort. We clearly don't have much else in life, so for god's sake let us have this.

(Sorry if this is way OT, as you can tell the topic has been building up inside me for quite some time now.)

I don't see how there can be a law setting a minimum age for prostitutes at some arbitrary 25 or whatever - you're right: you are either an adult who can make adult choices or else prostitution will be illegal for everyone.

You do strike me as a somewhat atypical 18-year-old/young adult, but that's not the point. While I don't think the majority of young people your age would thrive in sexwork, I certainly wouldn't base any policies on such generalisations.

+1 to all of this.

I think we all need to remember that some people do sex work just for the money. Why does it matter if a person is suited to sex work or would thrive doing it? I don't have any other viable alternatives and I need money to live. What a consenting adult chooses to do with their body is nobodies business but their own.

Most young adults won't thrive in any survival work, honestly. That's kinda the deal with survival work - it's about getting by when you're out of options. Not everyone has a wealth of alternatives available to them, honestly.

Anyone watched this on TV, who would work in one?

Working 13 hour days, seven days a week, while some girls earn about 10000 euros a week, most earn under 10000 a month. The girls also have to pay out ?127 per day even before they start working.

If I could earn close to the ?10000 per week mark I would work the hours although not having a place of my own to escape to at the end of the day would be a problem for me!

Which country was this based in? think I may have watched it before, I wouldn't work somewhere like that as prefer to be independent and choose my clients  :).

This was on years ago was in Germany . I'm pretty sure at the end it showed that it was raised and the managers were all facing jail and I'm pretty sure they mentioned at the end that the manager was in held in remand hence why he couldn't be in the rest of it . It was strange but the owner of the place didn't seem to be facing any charges not sure what the charges were for . But I'm pretty sure that place isn't there any more . You get girls in the uk that's sleep where they work and no go home and make good money but those girls seemed to do well I did here those places in Germany are good . But it's not for me rather work for my self X

My guess is that they were raided for tax evasion or something in the lines of. Every time a documentary/TV program pops up about some big bucks cash only business where everybody is getting rich, the owner has some big mansion and gets lots of attention the tax man/law starts knocking on their door. I've seen this happening over and over.

Must have been a repeat as I only just watched it a few days ago.

The brothel still has a web site although interestingly it only advertises that one establishment.

They said in the program that 90% of all prostitutes are forced into the business!

Wonder what the blond girl who stated in the program is now up to, she wanted to because criminologist.

I have met a number of European girls (friends) in this industry and they have passed on terrible stories of European working practices (surely there are also stories of great working practices too).

It seems that the industry is alot more accepted/acceptable in Europe especially Germany.  I asked why they moved to the UK to work if it is a big industry in Europe and their response was that although it is more accepted it is less respected and these brothels were very common.  Offering a full day service to some punters (gyms, pools, bars etc).

I'm happier to know that my career is starting here in the UK.

they have to pay just around 100 euros and they have a space where the customers come to, where the towels and bedding is taken care for and they are in beautiful surroundings. they dont have to advertise themselves and they have community of the girls to chat with. seems like a pretty good deal to me!
