Do you ever get funny looks from guests at hotels?
« on: 19 August 2010, 07:33:55 am »
Yes, we're all hookahs lol. But, Im sure non of us publicly dress like the stereotypical image of one when we are checking into hotels.

Well then why, do I feel people are looking at me like, "what is he doing here?" Namely the business type hotels where everyone is dressed in a suit and tie. I almost feel out of place, but at the same time...the hotel isn't reserved for only business people.

Or am I just imagining this in my head?

You are being paranoid. No one thinks twice about things like that in hotels.

Well I dont wear the same as others LOL. I dont dress in a tux and tie. But honestly, I dont care what people are thinking. But its just funny to see how they are looking at me. I know what people are thinking

For example, the manager of a hotel in the area that caters to business people at the airport asked, "so what are you doing here?" Now...some may construe that as a innocent comment, but the way he was asking was more like, "why is a younger 20s black guy here at the hotel ALONE from a different state? What is he doing or up to?"

I guess I just feel slightly 'uncomfortable' by the fact of thinking in my head that I'm doing business in their hotel. Even til this day, questions just gives me a slight lump in my throat!

I get kind of freaked out checking into hotels too!  No matter how many tours or incalls I do I still stress about it.  I use my California DL for id so it doesn't look like Im checking into a hotel in my home city, and they tend to want to talk to me about me visit so I make up stories lol.
Strangely it doesn't bother me doing outcalls to hotels and having the staff talk to me, there is one I visit ALL the time and the doorman is always giving me knowing looks and makes a point of saying something ironic.  I kind of get a kick out of it because I know they're never going to do anything about it  ;D

I always think they know! It's just because we know, we think they do too!

I've felt like that when visiting wearing jeans and tshirt or a nice suit dress, dread to think how i'd feel if I was head to toe in fishnets and latex....ooooo er :)

I was requested a Hotel Booking late last night. Large Hotel, city centre.
Turned it down as it would have been 1am when I walked through reception.
Not sure if I would have fooled anyone with my laptop-case and business dress at that hour? - Especially if I was walking out at 2/3am?  ;D

I don't know how late is TOO late to be honest? I suppose it depends how busy the Hotel is..
I DO find it quite stressful at the best of times, even though with my age and *demeanour* I THINK I carry off the rushed businesswoman look quite well..Phone jammed to my ear/busy meetings/no time to stop and say Hello sorry..( Think Deborah Meaden on Speed.. :) )..

There is one very nice airport Hotel I am often called to where the staff are ultra nice and polite and immediately offer assistance as you walk through the door..20 minutes later when I am STILL searching for the correct quadrangle that the Clients' room is actually located ( 3 miles away from the  room numbers on either side of it.. >:( ) ..my polite refusal of any help seems somewhat foolish and transparant!.. : :-[

I always ask the Client for full instructions but have absolutely no sense of direction anyway.

The number of times I have mistaken a hotel wardrobe for the bathroom - but that's another story!  ;D

I had my first hotel booking the other day. I didn't even look at reception, so I don't know if they gave me any funny looks. I got a bit paranoid that they might have had a sneaking suspicion about me when I walked out again two hours later. They probably didn't have a clue, but because I knew I thought they might.

Also, when going up in the lift, just before the doors closed another woman stepped in beside me looking all smart with a bag, short pencil skirt and tights/stockings on. I had to smile to myself while wondering if she was there for the same reason.
