Council Tax..... what happens when you have two properties....
« on: 20 September 2010, 03:09:23 am »
Mmmmm this is a strange one.... I have a property that is mortgaged... and get reduced council tax as I live on my own... also just now I am not working (just finished my degree) so I do not have to pay any.  Soooo what will I do when I get an apartment???? How do I get around that one??? How do I pay council tax on that property if I don't on the other... Grrrr.... no idea how to sort this out.   Of course I will soon have to notify then I am self employed.... Mmmm... Just trying to work it all out before I make any moves on an apartment if anyone has experienced this and can share what they know that would be great.

Mischa.

If you are no longer a student now and will be paying your tax etc then you will have to pay council tax and all other bills for both properties. You will get a 25% discount for them both as a single occupant

You do not get a discount on the second property, only the first.

Yes, if you are working, not paying your council tax is tax evasion and if found out a criminal offence.

Happy days.  Escorting is a real job so, as most of the ladies on here know, it comes with all the normal expenses and deductions.  A second property is just like having an office.  It is tax deductible though.

You can get a 25% single person reduction on your main home and a 10% second home discount on the other - this isn't on the forms, tell the council tax peeps it's a second home when you call to say you've moved in  :)
