A couple of weeks back a female sex worker character started on my favourite TV programme.  But I'm a bit peeved now because tonight she was beaten up by a punter and now Daniel is having a pop about men enabling prostitution!! It started off well with the reference to "sex workers". I thought, hold up, the producers have been browsing this forum to get some insights, but now it's all gone a bit stereotype.

Yes i been watching and a big fan. To be honest i thought the story was quite realistic which most times they get it wrong on sex work. She is doing it for survival to feed her daughter and build something for herself and got punched by a punter, well there is enough warnings to show this thing happens a lot.

Plus got friendly with Daniel the punter and took it outside work which happens a lot as some write on here.

"The prostitute is always a victim" is the favourite narrative of the patriarchy and some radical feminists too (the extremes always touch). You guys imagine if a corrie female character became a happy hooker, paid her taxes, took no shit from no one, paid her debts and control of her own destiny? Riots would ensue.

Seems to be the case here too, made me quite cross seeing her stumbling from a taxi with a head injury in a recent episode, running to her new client "friend" to " save her"  after also being attacked by another punter a few episodes back.

Saved isn’t the right word but if I could win the lottery and never have to work again, in any job, then I would take it, and the majority storyline will win and if they were promoting prostitution then there would be massive complaints to Ofcom, I work but I want more for my girl.

Nobody was born to sit in a cubicle infront of a computer leading with clients complaints, cold calling to sell a product, cleaning staircases or selling hand bags to snobby posh ladies in Harronds, believe me. Not only hookers but  90% of the working population in the UK will quit their job if they won the lottery believe me. I'm sure everybody working in the pret a manger in my street would love "to be saved" too 

Realistically though, whether the story line is stigmatised or not then I have zero issues with the fact Daniel is trying to ‘save her’, I am sure the majority of hookers wouldn’t be if they didn’t have to be, you don’t choose this job because you just like ducking random strangers that you don’t fancy, we are all doing this job, I would imagine, because money issues brought us to it so don’t we all want ‘saved’ to a degree? I just object to the portrayal and generalisation of us all as victims as I certainly don't see myself as such and as yet I certainly haven't met a client who I'd wish to be 'saved' by!

Too right as like I said, I don't see myself as a victim who needs to be 'saved' but we are all different so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one TT.

I think there have been 144 murders in the street since in started, a tram crashing, the pub blown up, the factory blown up and I think possibly the corner shop too.

Leanne was an escort a few years back, which tbh was pretty accurate. In a hotel bar pretending to be nice to a man she was only going to shag for money.

The "being saved" storyline has happened to most of us. Most of us choose this job because it gives us freedom from a low paid 9 -5 job, get ourselves thru uni, looking after kids etc. I saved myself from working hard, and never wanted a guy to do the saving.

The majority of us don't want to be saved from a punter who thinks we have no choice in what we do.

Anyhow, can you just imagine a long term punter sitting watching Corrie with their wife/partner going red faced and looking guilty? !!!!!!
