Late night weird encounter
« on: 07 May 2022, 03:54:04 am »
Hey,

I've just had a super strange encounter. I heard a gentle tapping on my window and chalked it up to someone looking for the neighbour but then they knocked on the front door. It's currently 03:30 (ish) am and I'm hanging out with my boyfriend and some friends (online) so I answered the door. It was a white guy, maybe 35 ish, clearly super inebriated, dressed in signature dad clothes, dark hair, kinda weird teeth, telling me he's looking for Chantelle and that he'd found me on viva street. My name/working name isn't Chantelle so I'm assuming he saw my confusion and said he had the wrong address.

I told him I'm on Viva but my name isn't Chantelle. He pulled a bunch of money out of his pocket and said he'd rather just book with me as I look better. I told him no as my room wasn't made up, I wasn't dressed. Obviously I wasn't going to accept his booking because I hadn't screened him but I wasn't going to tell him that. He became pushy "I have the money, I have the money".

I tried to push for information about who he's supposed to be seeing and what address he's supposed to be at. Maybe Chantelle lives close to me and I had no idea? I could point him in the right direction. He wouldn't give me any information about this alleged booking which set off alarm bells for me. How has he found my address? I always ensure that my address details give a rough estimate of where I am and never anything specific on my adverts. So what's the chances he's found himself at my door? Maybe someone gave him my address without my consent? Maybe he's a previous time waster that I've forgotten about and got drunk enough to show up? I definitely haven't seen him before. I tried to search, basic quick search, for a Chantelle in my area but nothing came up suggesting we're close enough for this mistake to happen.

I just thought it was super super strange. I have no further information about him as he didn't contact me previously so no number or aw name or anything. Is this a local time waster/creep that I had no idea about? Or does any one know of who he is and dealt with him before?

I'm just a little bit shaken that someone just ... showed up out of no where. I do work from the same flat I live in so I guess that increases the chances but even so. I just feel like I've lost control a little bit if that even makes sense? In the sense that usually I'm in control of who I give my address to and who I don't. I feel a bit weird going to sleep tonight now.

Moved this post from warnings because there is no warning information for others and advice is probably more useful. Calling the police would be the best suggestion IMO as they may have other reports and knowledge of this man.

As you work from home he could have got your address from being a no show or another client has given him your address or there is a gossip from neighbours that you do sex work from there and it's got around. It cannot just be he got lucky.

It was have shook you up but i think it was the wrong thing at a weirdo.at 3.30am to tell him you are a sex worker but room is not made up. This way he knows you def live there and work there.

If it was me i would have said leave now or i am calling the police and i have no idea what you are talking about.

All i can say if this ever happens again probably best not to open the door so late but if you did threaten the police.

This man is obviously a nutter.

Absolutely this! You always need to be one step ahead in your thinking, but that comes with experience. I’m not be patronising by the way.

Someone has obviously told him your address but I wouldn't have indicated I was a sex worker either. That's putting you at risk x

It is fair to say you were caught off guard, but even so, and like others, I would not have made any mention of being a sex worker. However, and more to the point, I most certainly would not have answered the door at 3:30am particularly as I wasn’t expecting anyone.

I hope you’re feeling less shaken now, and next time, just ignore any tapping on the window or knocking on the door unless you’re expecting someone!

Super inebriated sounds drunk, that's one whole reason not to let him in whatever the time of day. Let's hope he forgets about it/can't remember.

Do you have an alarm system?

The reason why I even answered the door at that time is because my neighbours often get food at that time but they list just the house number and not the specific flats so I often get knocks at that time. Ignoring it just causes issues with my neighbours so it's easier for me to answer and point them in the right direction as it's the lesser fight. So I answered thinking it was a take away man or a neighbours friend looking for their door.

I was very caught off guard. I don't stress too much about them knowing that it's where I live, because I have cats it's very obvious to clients that come in so I currently just can't avoid it. So if a previous client has given him the address it's unavoidable anyway. Although I'm hoping to move soon and it's something I'll definitely keep in mind for my new address as I want to try make it much less obvious that I live there

Very weird.
I’d look at getting a Ring doorbell or something similar. I believe they record but you can also check on your phone. Might be good for peace of mind.

I didn't get the cat bit Pinkest?... :)

You could be borrowing a friends flat despite the cats...perhaps. This does happen.
I don't think ones living status is obvious if you keep personal stuff hidden and only let them only see the 'office' and loo.
If they pry I change the subject or get busy fiddling with something or changing the music.

Your neighbours getting into a huff is wierd but after a few cold meals they will learn to order their deliverpoo properly.
