Yes you are correct in what you say regarding a selfie. It is a lot of trust to be putting into a website with no reputation, however there are specific reasons that I am asking for this information.
As it is a new business in the adult sector (which is deemed top of the list for high risk businesses), trying to even get a business bank account for accepting payments is extremely hard, especially when it has Escorts in the title. The problems that I am still encountering would be enough to let a lot of people just throw in the towel to be honest ( I like to persevere) so getting people to add a card at the moment is imposible for me, but this isn't the only reason - there is the other aspect of identifying who is advertising - for proof of age and as I mentioned before about making sure that the person advertising is the one that is registered on the site - (again this is the information that I got which was the best way for verification when I i did my initial research). It is not about checking if someone has the right to work because as you have again correctly stated, I'm not employing anyone. I am the one that is offering a service - in this case advertising space.
Technically a child is able to get a bank card - anyone from 16 years and up can have a card that they are able to pay for things online, because they are all VISA or Master Cards. I for one, do not want to run the risk of having anyone under the age of 18 advertising on the site. In some instances 16 year old are also able to get a credit card if they are co signed with an adult (like an extra card for them to use), which again brings into play the aspect of potential pimping and trafficking.
As to it being discreet (i hope this answers this part) - the verification photos are uploaded in a different setting to the normal advertising photos, and are kept separate from these photos at all times. They are not made public and only authorised admins of the site can see them to verify the profiles, as I am fully aware that a lot of escorts do not show their faces on a public profile.
As to asking for a passport from anyone in the UK or Ireland - yes, I could change the wording on the site however it would be to upload a picture of driving license instead of a passport. Again this would show and confirm the date of birth and identify the picture of the selfie to who ever is advertising.
In the long term though, I would like to gain enough trust so that people would advertise and use the site to look for escorts. And I hope that mine will eventually become a better and cheaper alternative to what is available for the location that I have set up in - although there is a lot of work to be done
. Everyone has to start somewhere and I would like to make sure that I start mine with checks that I believe are correct.
