The answer is data protection law as it relates to publishing identifying information, incidentally. The same reason as Ugly Mugs requires you to have an actual number to check, rather than allowing you to pore over lists of those which have been reported .

I have downloaded the app and I think it's fab, but I am a little conerned about privacy.

Why does the app require your IMEI number? For those of us whose work phones are on contract this is a little alarming; if the app was compromised it means that identifying information could fall into the wrong hands.

I'm super keen on the app and I've told a lot of working friends about it, we all think its fab but many of us are concerned about this privacy issue and  the risk of a breach.

Me too, Emma.  This app has made me feel like I've got another little piece of ammunition to protect myself against idiots that try to make my life a misery.  Thank you for this!  Great service.
