Hi all!
It's been a while since our last post, and many things have changed for us since 2016! Some of you may know who we are already, some of you may not.
For those who don't know, Umbrella Lane is a Glasgow-based lived-experience led charity who aims to provide a safe space for sex workers to come together as a community and be connected. All of our volunteers are current or former sex workers, and we are in no way associated with any government organisations.
We currently offer a number of services such as workshops and classes, drop-in services, safer sex supplies, and since the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have started a hardship fund for sex workers who are struggling financially (please see our website for details on how to apply www.umbrellalane.org) .
We are posting today as we are launching a community-wide needs assessment. With this needs assessment, we are reaching out to sex workers to find out about their needs and priorities, and using this information to inform our service offerings.
We will also be using these responses to build a training package for other services such as healthcare services, services for drug users, or services related to mental health support to name a few. We will work with these services to develop the language they use and the policies they have in place regarding interactions with people who do sex work, ensuring all services, both ours and others, are accessible and acceptable to our community.
The survey is linked here, and we would greatly appreciate your input. If you would like to know more about us, our social media is linked below as well. Any questions, comments or concerns may be sent to hello@umbrellalane.org or you can DM us on this site.
