Hi All,

Just wanted you to know there have been some really good changes to the options for sex workers who want to access sexual health services in Leeds. We have a variety of sexual health options:

-   We offer on site, quick and free STI testing and pregnancy testing.
-   We can provide Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea self-testing kits and bring out Chlamydia treatment to you.
-    We can book in sex worker only appointments at Leeds Sexual Health Clinic at either 1.30pm or 4.30pm every week day.
-   We also have a sexual health nurse that can come out with us to visit you on either Wednesday or Friday, offering more testing like throat swabs and bloods and Hep B vaccinations. We also offer a range of contraception including the Depo injection, contraceptive pills and the implant (and removal).
-   We can also give you a Red Umbrella Card or you can download this from the Leeds Sexual Health website www.leedssexualhealth.com/wheretogo/redumbrella  . This means that you can be seen straight away at Leeds Sexual Health Clinic and have a wider range of STI testing including throat swabs and Hep B vaccination

Look forward to hearing from you. Get in touch with any query and we'll try our best.

We are excited to introduce #17daysofaction, that will run from which will run from 1st - 17th December, with a series of events throughout this time to mark December 17th. We are keen to raise funds to support our service in providing support for sex workers who have experienced or are experiencing violence or abuse, as well as raising awareness in the community to prevent further violence.

For those of you who don't know, December 17th is the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. Sadly, since 1990, 180 sex workers have been murdered since 1990; 29 sex workers were murdered in the last 10 years.
We are extending our #17daysofaction to all to come and get involved in any of the events (See our website for more information: http://basisyorkshire.org.uk/about-us/17daysofaction-end-violence-sexworkers/). Please also join us on twitter or other social media sites with our hastag #17daysofaction to show support, helping to facilitate conversations about this.

Basis provides a specialist IDVA/ISVA (Independent Domestic Violence / Sexual Violence Advisor) service for sex workers. If you are experiencing domestic violence/abuse or have in the past, if you have been raped, sexually assaulted or  experienced any form of sexual violence we can support you. Please feel free to get in touch with Taylor, who is our IDVA/ISVA worker, via text, WhatsApp or phone call on 07495516926. For further information please see: http://basisyorkshire.org.uk/sex-work-project/isva-services/

We'd love to hear from you if you'd like to get involved in any way!

The Basis Team! X

Background to the International Day to End Violence against Sex Workers (Dec. 17)

The International Day to End Violence against Sex Workers was created to call attention to hate crimes committed against sex workers and to remember those who have been murdered. It was originally created by The sex workers outreach project in the US  as a memorial and vigil for the victims of the ?Green River Killer? in USA, convicted of the murders of 49 women and believed to have killed at least  71. 17th December has grown to be a global event, where sex workers, sex work support projects and their supporters come together in towns and cities around the world to remember victims of violence and reinforce the message that crimes against sex workers will not be tolerated and perpetrators will be brought to justice.  Please see http://www.december17.org/ if you would like to read more about the day

Happy Valentines day to you all!!  Did you know it was national condom day was yesterday?  We give out 100's of condoms each week to women working in Leeds, as well as lube, sponges, and STI testing.  If you would like us to come out and visit you for testing or condoms deliveries (limited amount for free, otherwise you can buy in bulk at cost price).  We run a drop in every Monday from 1-4 at our office, and we are on live chat every Tuesday afternoon!
