Hi Folks,
It was International Sex Worker Rights Day on Friday March. The day?s history goes back to 2001, when over 25,000 sex workers gathered in India for a festival despite efforts from prohibitionist groups who tried to prevent it taking place by pressuring the government to revoke their permit. The event was organised by Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee, a Calcutta based group that has over 50,000 sex worker members, and members of their communities. Sex worker groups across the world have subsequently celebrated 3rd March as an annual, international event, as International Sex Workers? Rights Day.
So we thought it's a good time to flag up an updated info resource 'Sex Workers & the Law' , it's produced by Release, some of you may have seen it over the years. Well the new updated booklet and rights cards are now out. You can download a pdf of it on the Release website www.release.org.uk/publications/sex-workers-and-law-booklet Over the last decade sex workers in the indoor and online sectors have found it really useful.
If you ever want to talk through any legal stuff associated with sex work do get in touch and of course for anything else be it free condoms, lube, sponges, screening options including screening with the outreach nurse who now comes out and about on outreach with us to visit people at their working flat/home whatever feels safe for them.
