Apologies if there's a similar thread already; I couldn't find one.

I've just relocated to the NW and am looking for a clinic where I can register with a pseudonym, not give my GP details, be open about being a sex worker etc. It also needs to be fairly easy to get to by public transport.

I don't need any sort of sex work project help, just a standard STI screen, but I'd prefer to go to a clinic that's friendly and offers all services. I can't really afford to go private, and I got the impression MASH was aimed at street workers?

I can go pretty much anywhere in the NW except Preston (I'll register officially as a civvy with the clinic here for a check up once a year).

I use MASH, they also go to massage parlours.  They help all sex workers who contact them.

Do MASH have a 'proper' medical clinic for the STI tests?

They have a nurse onsite who does swabs, bloods etc, but you have to book in.   I have had all mySTD checks there, they also gave me con selling (arranged through the police) for a work related incident. 

I find them very nice, non judgemental and only asked my work name, nothing else.

I preferred having my checks at Mash rather than that hospital as no waiting around in Mash, you are straight into your appointment. NMGH give you a form to complete when you arrive, then sit in a waiting room with a few other people, who are all nervously looking round at each other.

I had waited 45 minutes there, not discreet enough for me.

We have a sex worker only clinic for screening, contraception and cervical smears at red umbrella and cover all sectors and all of Merseyside

I was fast tracked by Shelley from Red Umbrella and the clinic was expecting me.


Everything happened quickly, warmly greeted, invited to give feedback as they’re on a drive to reach out to the sex work community, and there were no voyeuristic questions of no clinical relevance (unlike my appalling experience at NMGH - who also mixed me up with another patient!)
