It's a good idea to avoid dehumanising language when addressing people who are routinely patronised, marginalised and generally treated like a different species for no reason other than the job we do. Move on, please.

Sorry Amy but what is wrong with someone calling themselves a female? She obviously isn't a budgie, a cat or a giraffe so what's the problem. It's the way you say things sometimes. :)

Female can be any age, woman being adult female.
I could however be wrong.
At least there's no mention of 'girls' ::)

As above. 'Female' is an adjective not a noun and can refer to any species. 'Woman' is specific to human beings and doesn't reduce us to something from a nature documentary.
