Free sexual health support - Wolverhampton
« on: 07 November 2022, 02:02:59 pm »
Hi, I'm Laura and the net reach worker for Changing Lives IRIS project based in the West Midlands. We cover Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Solihull and Birmingham.

We provide programmes and support services to help sex workers, women at risk of being sexually exploited and women involved in ‘survival sex’.

We work one-to-one with women, tailoring our support package to their individual needs. We help women improve their health and wellbeing, personal safety and confidence in reporting crimes that occur while they are working.

Our support is non-judgemental. We help women identify the choices they have and can help them to find routes out of sex work if they want to, but also support women to stay safe if they continue to sell sex.

We develop multi-agency support and pathways into a wide variety of services to support individuals.

We offer support with things such as;

Online harm & tech abuse advice & support - How to remain safe online, how to report online stalking, profile safety tips, safety plans etc
Sexual health - Free condoms and sexual health support
Referrals to other agencies for housing, addictions etc
Mental health & trauma support - One to One and group work, both online and in person
Personal safety advice
SWISVA, Sexual assault and rape support
Help reporting to police

and much more.

We have 2 fully trained SWISVA's (sex worker independent sexual violence advisor's) and a trauma specialist.

We have two outreach sessions each week in the local areas in addition to our 1 to 1 support and our net reach online support.

We are currently expanding our netreach work and will soon have indoor worker friendly drop ins and online support groups.

If you would like to hear more about the services we provide, or would like some support & advice, then drop me a message.

Update on our services

Our team has just welcomed a new Volunteer coordinator, so we will soon be looking for women based in Walsall or Wolverhampton who have past experience of sex work, sexual exploitation or survival sex who would like to get involved in our project by working alongside us as a volunteer. Working alongside our volunteer coordinator to support women in our community who may be facing difficulties and who want support to either be able to continue with sex work safely, or who may wish to find ways to move on from sex work and who need support in doing so. More information to follow later this year/early 2023. DM if you would like to show an interest.

International women's day is just around the corner (8th March) and here at the IRIS project we are holding an event to celebrate and empower female sex workers!
[/b]

There will be an opportunity to meet the team and find out more about our roles and the services we provide. There will be refreshments, free goodies (Personal alarms, condoms, toiletries etc), £5 gift voucher for each attendee, fun activities and much more!

The event is open to female sex workers in the West Midlands area and will be held on Wednesday 8th March in Wolverhampton.

If you are interested in attending - drop me a DM for more information!

Hope to see some of you there  :)

A new campaign is encouraging people in Wolverhampton to be aware of sexually transmitted infections – and to make sure they keep themselves and their partner(s) safe. The number of people being diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections remains high; in 2022, there were 392,453 STIs diagnosed in England, up nearly a quarter on the year before, including significant increases in gonorrhoea and infectious syphilis diagnoses, the highest since 1948. In Wolverhampton there were 2,027 STIs diagnosed in 2022.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of STIs and offers advice on where you can go for support.

Kits to test for STIs are free and can be ordered discretely online.

Embrace, Wolverhampton’s Sexual Health Service, offers advice and information about sexual health, tests for and treats sexually transmitted infections including HIV, and provides condoms, contraception and emergency contraception. All services are free, confidential and non-judgmental and available to people of all ages, genders and orientations.

To book an appointment or for more information about clinics and services, please call the Embrace Wolverhampton Sexual Health Service on 01902 444444 or log on to www.embracewolverhampton.nhs.uk.

Here at Changing Lives we also provide sex worker friendly sexual health drop ins alongside Embrace in Wolverhampton, as well as sexual health support for people across the wider West Midlands region. For further info or support regarding sexual health or any of the other support services we offer, please drop me a DM.

Thanks,
Laura (West Midlands Netreach Worker, Changing Lives)
