Coaching for escorts- would you find it useful?
« on: 12 October 2010, 12:55:58 pm »
Hi all,

As a coach I offer solutions to problems, whether they be business or personal, and I have recently been working mostly with small business people or entrepreneurs.  Largely this has focused on improving results, and most importantly, taking action to improve business situations.

This got me thinking about adult workers, being self employed can be a tricky thing and if you factor in all the additional aspects of adult work such as potential self esteem issues, safety, and of course, getting enough work, I wondered if you thought coaching would be something you all would be interested in?  I would really appreciate if you would let me know how useful you would find coaching in this industry.

Have a look at this link for an in depth definition of coaching if you would like to learn a little more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaching

Hoping to hear from you all soon!

Personally speaking, I find your post rather patronising.  Especially the part about the self-esteem 'issues'.

As a fellow WG said in a post recently her self-esteem was rock solid before she started this job and it has grown even more by doing this job.  I agree wholeheartedly.

You seem to have the completely wrong impression of escorts (which is nothing new).  Assuming that we need help running our own business and getting enough work for instance.  Even if someone did need a bit of advice its not something you would ever be able to help with.

Not to mention the fact that I would never divulge my personal or working details to a complete stranger.

Thanks for the link to the definition of coaching but I would never have known what it was without your link.  ::)

So no I for one wouldn't find your coaching useful.   If I ever need any advice I will ask a fellow prossie or post it on here as thats what SAAFE is for.

I apologise if my post came across as patronising, that certainly wasn't my intention, I merely posted on here to find out if coaching would be of interest to the escort industry as a whole.

Also, I wouldn't presume to know about your industry, as I didn't expect you to know about mine (hence the link), my service is not as a consultant but a coach which basically means we work through any issues there may be together, which could be personal or professional. Self esteem can be a big one for anyone in any walk of life, as can finding enough work in any industry.

Apologies again if anyone was offended, it seriously wasn't my intention!  Coaching is to help people, and that was all I intended by posting here.

I'm afraid I agree with this; I don't think anyone here at SAAFE would recommend any other escort take sex work advice from a non-sex worker. Understanding thorough experience of the job itself is vital, really, unless your only advice would be the most obvious and general: "Stay safe, read the SAAFE site," etc.

Considering this site and forum is entirely geared towards safe and healthy business advice to any and all working or planning to work within the sex industry, I would also hope that no one feels the need to pay for "coaching services" but of course, if they do, they'll be able to get in touch privately via PM. :)

I read the topic in couching and it is a pity that is locked already as I would like to speak out my opinion.

I have worked since 94 as an escort, so well, I can not be accused of being an outsider after 16 years in the profession.

It's a genuine offer from some one for a valuable work (couching) and I must disagree with other opinions who in other words say we escort can't count on someone who has not been an escort.

Some Projects have good social assistants, etc and they have not been escorts.

Ghetto has never contributed to anything.

I also disagree with the saying that the escorts don't deal with problems of self-esteem. I know dozens of girls (inclusive myself) and many, many of them have their own problems and a couch is a welcome professional for many reasons, inclusive to help improving/keeping/developing self-esteem.

I felt the answers being angry, not being democratic and not being friendly towards the author of that topic.

Sorry, but that's what I feel and I hope that we don't put ourselves in a "marfim" tower  pretending we are super-women and not normal people.

Mainly, I found the answers un-friendly towards the author of the topic and I'd like to say that she should not give up trying to work as a couch.

Good luck
Ava

I think she means 'coaching' and is referring to this topic here. This is a sex workers forum and the discussion was locked with the proviso that any0ne interested in paying someone with no knowledge of our work or our industry to tell us how best to manage our lives could easily PM the party concerned, which the OP here is welcome to do.

She may feel that other posters were 'unfriendly', but they are perfectly entitled to their view and I agree with them entirely, and since the thread was there for everyone who wanted to to contribute until it was locked, it is hardly 'undemocratic'. It is also worth pointing out that the OP of that thread was not only without any experience of working as a prostitute, but unlikely to be offering her services for free, unlike the counsellors available through various sex work projects and not forgetting the posters here, who all give up their time without being asked to help and guide others when needed.

To the OP: If a discussion is locked, that is a sign that it is over, and is not an invitation to try and continue it elsewhere.

Locked.

EDIT: Topics merged.
