Would you take a booking from an "Unknown" caller?
« on: 13 December 2012, 10:54:31 pm »
I just had this guy call me today for a booking (incall). He sounded fine but he called me from "unknown". So I (very kindly) told him that he needed to hang up and call me from a real number as -for safety reasons- I don't take booking from unknown callers. He then told me that he wouldn't call me from his real number because he wanted to be discreet (he sounded like the paranoid type, you know the "type"..). He begged me and begged me for an appointment. Very kindly I refused him. He's been e-mailing me all afternoon telling me what a "good guy he is" and that he's no ax-murderer etc..

Am I being too paranoid?  :FF    He sounded fine but... I just don't feel comfortable giving bookings to "unknown callers". Am I being silly?

I not only don't take bookings from them, I don't answer them or even know about them as my call blocker won't let them through. Thank you BlackBerry :D.

I don't pick up "unknown" callers either Amy. The only reason I picked up this call was because we had been e-mailing back and forth and he was like: "I'm calling you right now" So I know it was him when my phone rang then and there. I just picked it up to let him know he had to call me from a real number before we proceeded with the booking. But he didn't wanted!

I to have a call blocker. You would be surprised just how many guys have sounded fine but later learned the truth. Like if any thing bad happens.

Something fishy with this guy Ana. My spidey senses are tingling! I understand the need for discretion but all the twit has to do is purchase a ?1.00 throwaway SIM. So what?s his real issue? Avoid!

Yeah well, he doesn't make the rules. You do.

I don't even take bookings from landline numbers until they've rung me on the mobile they'll be using on the day. If anything happens or goes wrong on the day I want that number - I'm well aware that they can get cheap SIMs and bin that one straight after using it but it and the handset can still be traced, plus as all of us who've had the same timewasters calling us from the same numbers for two or three years know, 90% of them don't ;D.

That's what I thought. And the idiot was calling me from his hotel (he had a strong American accent). Or that's what he said.. I mean...He could have even called me from his hotel room!

Fishy. So of course I didn't take him. But it left me wondering If I did loose a good booking... ???

Good decision to reject the booking. You ?might? have lost a good booking but you definitely ensured your safety. No contest in my book  :)

Yep had these over the years, one guy said "I'm married can't phone showing my number got to be discrete", err and 60-75% of my clients are married and manage to show their numbers no problem.

One chap after his 3rd or 4th call requesting a short-notice booking was told "If you can't phone and display your number there's no point phoning again because even if I was available at short notice I'd not give you a booking without a number". His response "Oh ok" and I never heard from him again, or if I did he did show his number.

After learning that withhelds are unreliable, cause all sorts of problems in arranging appointments(phones to confirm or say he's early at same time as another unknown number, and you end up playing cat and mouse because you can't phone him back to say "Come on over", or even more likely another person uses the same name and you tell which one is confirming/cancelling/asking for the pink lingerie). Or want to phone every week for 2 years asking the same questions pretending they've never spoken to you before.

Obtaining a call blocker facility was the best thing I ever did.

If he was phoning from hotel room you could have offered to phone him back on the landline, asked to be put through to his room number.

I don't answer them, and on the odd occasion when I have I ALWAYS tell them to call back from a displayed number and they never do literally never honestly. I would never take a booking from a witheald number but that's just me. They could be anyone, plus don't they think I want to discrete for myself? Of course I do, but yet I'm welcoming them into my bloody place yet they can't even give me a proper number? Don't think so. Get a punting phone boys, very simple solution.

True, safety comes before money ALWAYS. But every once in a while I'll question my "safety procedures". Dumb, I know. And yes, I should have told him to call me from the hotel and give me his room number (smart move, but I wasn't that sharp). I have a strong feeling he wouldn't have complied though. He just sounded extremely paranoid.

I insist on calling the room number of a hotel before I leave anyway always.

To be honest (and whilst paranoia from somebody who comes from a place where punting is illegal is slightly more understandable I suppose, he would get nowhere trying that cobblers with prossies in the States) even if he was genuine I can't cope with the mega-paranoid ones - I'm not especially good with nervous people but at least once the ice is broken and they settle down a bit it's OK. These ones are just a nightmare.

I had one try to insist on checking my room for cameras/recording equipment/burly men hiding under the bed once after grilling me on how often I have healthchecks within two minutes of getting through the door, and in the end I just asked him to leave before he'd even taken his coat off because he was getting on my tits so much there's just no way I could have done my service properly.
