How do you cope working with chronic illness/disability?
« on: 02 September 2019, 05:59:53 pm »
Hi all, I suffer with depression, anxiety, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. I can no longer work a “normal” job due to constant fatigue and pain over my whole body.

Even though escorting gives me the flexibility to work and rest when needed, I’m finding that I’m still struggling, especially when I have a flare up and as a result I’m not making as much money as I could if I could just overcome the aching.

I’m  just wondering how those with chronic conditions, disabilities etc cope and if anyone has any tips or recommendations they’d be greatly appreciated x

I also have mental health and physical health problems, and just like yourself need a flexible job as can't work a 9-5 permanently due to needing so many days off - employers never understand when I need time off.

I tend to see regular clients - only. Also I only work 2 or 3 days every week - as I simply can't work any more than this due to my health conditions. Because of this I live on a very tight budget, but my health comes first.

Take care of yourself, your health is paramount in this industry x

Ladies
I'm.not sure if you offer and tolerate longer bookings or keep them short due to your health.
I only do hour booking max or the occasional longer visit with regulars.
I am often exhausted too.
There are days I feel sick or in pain inflamed tendons.
Do try phone chat for extra credits if you use aw.
If your prices are fair you won't need to drop prices but do you offer quickie services?
It can add a little extra to the purse without putting too much pressure on you .

I have a disability that impacts my energy levels and also suffer from physical pain.

I used to work a at a medium volume but kept suffering burn out. I increased my rates so that I could keep bookings to a minimum and work on prebookings. So that I can manage my time, and energy levels and  mentally prepare. Also take chunks of time off to recover, and give myself persmission to rest.  - not sure about you but I used to always feel guilty and ashamed taking time out and not being proactive with work and over daily chores.

I spent time identifying activities and triggers that impact energy levels, and try and minimise or eliminate them.  And increase the time spent on things that give me energy and make me feel happy.

Meditation, walks outside in fresh air, MAssage and gentle exercise such as yoga help a lot.

I don't have any physical issues so I'm not much use there, but I have a chronic mental illness that has got progressively worse over time. Being able to work shifts or a 9-5 is a distant memory for me.

I adjusted my rates to the higher end to lower my booking requests and I focus mainly on prebookings, but if I wake up feeling unusually chipper I'll pay for the available today option on AW and take clients that day. I also offer a half hour option because I don't find those very tiring usually.

And I put aside a certain percentage of my earnings for things that I know are helpful for managing my mental illness: private therapy, swimming pool membership, etc.

Best wishes
