would you cut your rate if a regular asked?
« on: 16 February 2013, 05:21:34 pm »
I just lost my least favourite regular. Oh well. He books me every few months and always gives me at least a few weeks notice when he'll be in town and wants to book. He always stays in the same room in the same grotty one star hotel and always has wine in his room that comes in these fruit juice carton style boxes. I shouldn't have been surprised when a man who books one star hotels and drinks wine from a box, sent me a txt asking for a discount but he wasn't very polite about it. I've recently put my incall and outcall rates up by ?50 so I told him this and said I'd leave the rate the same for him because I always look forward to seeing him etc but sorry, I can't discount it any further. The next txt I got just said 'bye'.. Would you have agreed to cut your rate? I know I probably should have and I'm a snob for looking down on him for his shit hotel and ?1 wineboxes but couldn't bring myself to say yes.

Didn't know there was such a thing as a 1star hotel but unless it was dirty or didn't feel safe that wouldn't bother me. Nor would the wine. I agree though you should not have reduced your rates further.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

Absolutely not.  For me the golden rule is if ANYONE,  from an enquirer all the way up to a formally super regular asks for a discount I won't give it.

If however you decide to have a special offer or decide to give an ongoing discount to a lovely regular then this is an entirely different affair.

This is because you are in control and you call the shots.  Anyone who attempts to negotiate your rates is disrespectful and once disrespect begins, its a slippery slope that can only go one way - downwards, and you will end up respecting and liking yourself less into the bargain.

You had already offered him your original price so he had a discount from your new price.

I often offer regulars a discount but only the ones who see me every week.

If a client asks then he will be told politely that he cant have one and told if he asked again he would be put on my never see list.

Asking for a discount to me is like saying I am not worth what I charge and my rates are quite average for my ara for my age, size and services so in my opinion they can shove it up their arses.

When he said bye I would have text, OK sorry to have lost such a good client especially considering I gave you 50 off my new rate. This offer is still valid for any bookings made in the next two weeks.  If you have not booked by then I will have to charge the new rate the next time you contact me.

He would soon change his mind and come back to you as he sees you regularly and guys who do that dont like to have to try and find another regular.  He is just trying to get you to go lower and in a day or two when he realises you mean you wont change your price he will get back in contact.  Its what I do when they text for a discount and I have only lost one regular over it but he was on my only see when broke list :)

I thought there would be a chorus :-)

If you had said yes, you would have resented it, it would have shown in the booking, and that would not have helped either of you.

About the only exception is if they get off on having a resentful partner and you probably don't want to see them anyway.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

As predicted by Dani, but only a few hours later rather than days later, I got a txt from him saying he still wants to see me and he'll pay me the same rate as usual.

Didn't know there was such a thing as a 1star hotel but unless it was dirty or didn't feel safe that wouldn't bother me. Nor would the wine. I agree though you should not have reduced your rates further.

It's not filthy but there are stains on the walls that might be mold and a blob of chewing gum or something in the middle of the carpet plus the worlds squeakiest bed..

I agree, if it comes across as disrespectful at all I never agree to discounts. I have a note on my profile saying my rates are negotiable if they want half hour bookings and or massage and relief without sex so I don't mind if they politely ask about this or make a fair offer but I hate it when they try to tell me my rates are too high, tell me what other guys charge etc

I know what you mean about clients who seem to want to make you resentful. I've had those types contact me and just said I was busy. He's not that bad. He missed me when I was away touring and even sent me a happy valentines txt.. bless. He means well and hopefully realises now not to try haggling again.

Hi,

Glad he has seen sense and good on you for sticking to your guns.

On my AW  profile I have a tab detailing rates and offer a 'regular rate' which is for any repeat client. It is only ?20 off, but it seems that (so far) it stops anyone asking for a discount. I've probably just been overly lucky since starting out though.

I'm glad you didn't cut your rate and it's even better that you'll get to keep him as a Client.

I just wanted to say though - you're not the only one who is a Hotel snob. I'm not proud of it, but I always google Hotels before I do Outcalls and I decline bookings if they're not places I would stay myself. I dont mean it nastily, but working in a place like that leaves me profoundly depressed afterwards. It's just not worth taking a job if the self loathing that follows means I end up taking a week off.

To add - when I'm travelling on my own I'll use an Travel Inn/Days inn/Etap whatever as long as it's clean. I'm only a snob when working...

That sums up my feelings exactly. I've decided how much to charge and my rates are non-negotiable for 2 reasons; I like to remain "in control" and any negotiating of fees or services psychologically gives the client more power, and I don't want to give a service to anyone who felt I wasn't "worth" what I'm happy charging.

There's hagglers aplenty at the moment, had some cheeky sod on aw the other day, convo went like this

Him: I give 80 for the hour I see that Is fair price
Me: sorry, I don't give discounts as I get more than enough clients at my going rate
Him: I got choice of thousands 80 take it or leave it it very good offer
Me: I don't think you get it do you? If you want to pay 80 book 45 minutes, if you want an hour at 80 look through the 1000s of girls and choose one at that price

:FF I hate this I'd never meet this type of guy even if he then offered to pay me more than my rate, it just screams 'i don't think your worth it but I still want to fuck you at the price I think your worth'

I offered a weekly regular a discount last week, he is exceptionally loyal and he didn't want to take it. I'd rather stick with these clients who do think I am worth it, pay well and come back. Don't get what hagglers are trying to achieve. Hows your price hike going op, 50 is a lot to put rates up in these times! Xx

I raised the price when I got back from touring last week. Was charging double my London rate in Dubai and got used to the extra ? so wanted to try a higher rate here too. I was just getting one per day though so I lowered my rates again a few days ago to my old rate plus 20 instead of plus 50. Still just one yesterday and about to have one incall which is my only booking so far today. Ideally want to average 2-3 per day so it's just a matter of finding the right rates and advertising enough to reach that average.

It's really upto you whether or not to offer discounts, depedent on the circumstances. If he is your least favourite regular then I wouldn't recommend it, and the environment (1star hotel) suggests that he may not be a prestigous gentleman.
