Shoot content or take bookings?
« on: 02 November 2021, 11:04:47 pm »
Got a room booked for later in the month, I need to shoot new content but not sure if should also take bookings or just do bookings instead. I haven't had chance to shoot any new content in months so do need to get it done but then obviously don't make money from that straight away so bookings would be handy. But then if I'm dealing with bookings I probably wont have the time to shoot anything. So stressing on which I should do

I would set aside an hour or two to get some new pics - updated/fresh content is always useful.

this, I don’t get why it’s such a difficult decision for OP  :-\

I actually find this difficult even when camming, setting the time aside is worth it because the content sales will happen usually when least expected and do boost income.

Equally photos and videos for free viewing also in my experience boost you, your profile, attract customers previous, current, new.

Content sales are passive income, so it is very much worth your while to make time to shoot new content. If you have a hotel room booked, just block out the first few hours to yourself and see clients later.

It sounds like you're overthinking - hence the stressing! As others have said, get some time ring-fenced for the content (and anyone helping you will know the times) then have a break; then advertise to work from a certain time. Alternatively - treat it as a half day off and if it's a nice hotel, go and enjoy a swim and sauna after you've got the content done!  :)

You should be able to do both if you organise it properly. I mean, it depends what the content is somewhat but still...

Because it's only a day room and there's no guarantee I will get into the room at 9am and only have it till 5pm

Oh that's a bit more tricky. Perhaps the reply wasn't the most empathetic - but you said nothing about the 8 hour window in your post, which is a pretty big thing (and explains why you're stressing)  ;D

If it’s only a day room, I’d focus more on bookings and if your availability permits, use your takings from bookings to sort a room on another day for making content. Depending where you are but I noticed in Glasgow (pre COP26) that some hotels were offering a four hour slot to book rooms which would be ideal if you could find something similar. Or failing that, book a day room and give yourself say till 12/1pm to make content and use the rest of the time for bookings - most day rooms can easily be made back with just a 1/2hr or hr.

Why not just book the night and get the best of both worlds?

I have a concert the night before and already have a cheap room booked for after it so didnt want to have to wait for hours to be able to check in elsewhere plus its Glasgow which tends to be better for day bookings than evening

I like to make time for both but it can be challenging time wise. It feels so good to know you’re covering some of your overheads with online content which costs you nothing to distribute or produce really and so more profit from taking bookings. So even if you can allocate awhile to get some content done would really benefit you I think.

Ended up changing my other booking to 2 nights and will spend a day doing content (it's not suitable for bookings). Then might book a day room for the 3rd day and do some bookings then
