Working late - the odd balls and dangerous ones
« on: 14 April 2016, 09:11:29 pm »
Had slow day so decided to work late. A guy messages me asking if i was working and I was like yes, then he asks for post code to see where I am, so I send it. Then me messages me back asking if it was a house or flat. That was a no, no question for me at this time of night. So I reply back and say something has come up and can't do tonight anymore, to which he replies, he has coke and will pay me for  three hours....

Has you had anything that has set of your alarm bells and you think people should watch out for ?

Forgive my ignorance but I dont see what the issue is?? (If you wouldnt mind explaining this would be much appreciated)

Moving the "I have coke and will pay you for 3 hours" to one side, surely its more of a risk to send him your postcode then advising whether you work in a house or flat??

Good point but I live in a hard to find place,  and the post code covers a very very long road. But I don't know how else to explain where i live cause it some complicated to find even if i give the name of the area.

Then why do you feel the red flags came up when he asked if it was a flat or house?

It seems more of a pointless question than a dodgy question to me.

Well cause it's late at night and if someone is trying to rob you, doing it in a house would be easier, than an enclosed flat. I feel bad for starting this topic.

At the end of the day, something didn't feel right. And it was further confirmed when he started offering coke and saying he was going to book for three hours, none of that adds up.

Dont feel bad about starting the topic! I think its a good topic thats why I chose to respond.

I wasnt there so I cant say jack sh*t (hence my Qs). At the end of the day, we all have to make decisions and clearly what you decided/your gut worked in your favour so good on ya girl  8)

No need to feel bad about starting a topic.I don't do late night bookings anyway as I generally find that's when more of the weirdos come out.I never really thought about houses being easier to rob than flats.I think if they are going to rob you once they are in a flat is pretty easy to rob if they are just going to try and grab cash or whatever.

I do late bookings (after 10pm) quite often - out calls mostly. Day or night - I always make ask them to call me. And then very quick I decide if it's worth going. It's been ok so far. :)

Robberies can happen at any time of the day.  When I started I was robbed twice, first thing in the morning, and on my last day of my tour.

Late night bookings we are likely to get more of the people who may be under the influence of drink or drugs, which can make normal chaps into twats.  But there are people who work nights, late shifts who are totally lovely.  But I thrown out one or two coke heads and pot heads over the years but never a drinker, they don't get past the phone call.

Do you have a buddy who maybe sit in with you if you want to work late?

I personally don't work after ten but that's more to do with being a lazy bitch lol.

The only time I was robbed was in the early evening, and the couple of times I've had odd things pilfered was during the day. And the only drunk I've ever had to throw out turned up pissed at half past two in the afternoon.

I don't work late either, but that's because I start early and like to get home in good time. When I'm away I'll do later if I'm not too tired and my screening is the same no matter what time of day it is, so if they're pissed, pushy or just obnoxious they don't get a booking. This includes the old chestnut question about what time my latest booking is and how busy I've been today ::).

I had an armed robbery by a client who wanted my latest, end of weekend appointment. I have however also had plenty of perfectly pleasant clients who like to book lateish in my evening. I should add that I gave the robbery person the latest I would accept, which was 8pm so hardly very late.

One thing to look out for with late or last appointments is the the client may assume he can overstay 'because there's no-one after me', or that if you make an exception to a late time that you'll do it every time. If you are making an exception, I'd advise making it clear that it's a one-off or that your working hours have changed.

I fully agree with this, often the type of clients who want 'your last appointment' do so to try and push boundaries and over stay, because they assume that we have nothing else in our lives apart from 'the next booking'!! And if you've ever made an exception they will expect it every single time.

I work late nights every day and to say the nighttime brings oddballs is an understatement but they are not all dangerous, I've met some lovely guys who either work nights too or suffer from insomnia or a whole host of other reasons they are awake in the wee hours.

I hate working days and would never go back to that schedule for all the money in the world. Up their own arses cheap businessman who want to condescendingly and passive aggressively put me down and make me feel like a piece of meat? No thank you.

I've had dangerous clients working both times of day and there is no 'safe time' in this business.

I'm not sure about the issue with the house or flat thing but if it's a red flag to you, it's a red flag. Personally I just think it's a bloody stupid and unnecessary question. Flat or hotel fair enough.

Regarding days and nights, I've never worked nights while indie as I only work from hotels now, but I did work until 2am with my old agency. I never found that anyone was more dangerous at night, In fact I barred more people during the day. I did get a high volume of drunk and coked up clients at night, but I mainly worked late on weekends so that may be why. They wouldn't pass my screening now but I didn't find them a massive issue, they were actually more generous than day time clients and more often than not, extended.
