Working in the Netherlands/Holland, specifically Amsterdam.
« on: 28 August 2018, 08:29:05 pm »
Hello

I am looking to go to Amsterdam and work independently from an apartment alone. I read somewhere here that I would need a licence but upon checking a government website it says :

"Prostitutes from EEA countries and Switzerland
If you are a citizen of one of the countries within the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, you may work in the sex industry as a paid employee or a freelancer. You will need a valid identification card."    ---there is no mention of registering anywhere/obtaining a licence.

Can someone enlighten me please? Any other general info is also welcome. I have done some research on this site already about working in Holland, great resource. Also would not mind a buddy, so if anyone is from there, PM me please.

When I went with my boyfriend i also looked into it! it does seem very exciting even if only for a short period, part of the validation card is registering as a sex worker but i believe it is a quicker process if you are european or from an EU country, as sex work in holland is legalised so all the sex workers are registered. to rent a window you need to be able to confirm you are registered. there are sites and help online for deeper information.

Thanks for your input. I will stay in Amsterdam for a year. I wonder if I can get away and work without registering. Does anyone know what the consequence of this will be, if caught? A fine, perhaps? I will be working independently from my private apartment, not window.

I hate giving my official documents as I have another career. Kind of a z-list celeb so would hate to be outed.

Why would you try to avoid a system that's there to help you and the clients???
This pisses me off.
We want decriminalisation and to be able to work with police in a safe environment, and there's always someone trying to do it their own way, under the radar.

Look at it this way, would decent clients want to see an unregistered sw when there's an abundance of registered, screened and certified ones?

Hey there!

I work in The Hague, independently without registering although it's not the wisest thing to do. Please don't ban me on this post as I am just sharing my thoughts. I would love to register myself (and do all things legal e.g pay tax etc) but despite legally able to live and study here, I am not allowed to legally work. If you can register, by all means please do, the system helps all parties.

Let me throw in some comments/tips/etc on working in Netherlands in general.

Working in NL
1. The window girls really have it hard especially in the RLD as the window rent is around EUR150 per shift (not even 24 hours). This is an info I got from Punters so I'm not sure how 100% accurate is the information. Sometimes the guys in the RLD don't even take up the service and only turn up for entertainment, which is really sad.
2. Amsterdam would not be the best city to work from as there is an influx of girls from all over the continent, but again, if you can market yourself well, why not? The big cities like DH, Utrecht and Rotterdam would be a better bet. Maybe if you work in a nice neighborhood in Amsterdam that will play in your favor? However, Amsterdam rents are expensive. Another tip I heard is to work in Zuidas where the financial district is, so you get lunch crowd clients or after work clients. Zuidas is equivalent to the City in London, though on a smaller scale.
3. There is a quota for the registration of sex workers in every city and it's a department in the City Council that issues the 'license'. Most cities have reduced the quota year by year making it hard to obtain this. It's always safer to work a card but I know alot of girls work independently.

Tips
1. The most traffic is from Kinky.nl. You can advertise as an independent in Kinky without any "license" or "registration number" but you will need to go through the verification process as well such as holding your ID card with the latest newspaper etc. They want to make sure that you are above the legal age and that you are permitted to be in the country. The process is fairly easy and quick. The Kinky admin are pretty nice people. You can pay EUR2.00 via credit deduction from your phone so your ad is in front or something like that. I think EUR25.00 for always to be on top. When I advertise, I usually pay the EUR2.00 so my ad stands out :)
2. Another website to advertise is sexmarkt.nl and sexjobs.nl though from my experience, there's not much traffic coming from here. All of the websites are in Dutch but easily translated via google translate click.
3. I'm quite wary of working independent so I only work after office hours or on weekends, and I have uni too so that keeps me busy during the day time. If you're attracting too much crowd or traffic (but working without a license), you might get a visit from the authorities. The authorities will consists of polices (a man and a woman), tax officer and a social worker. They will question etc and they will let you off with a warning for the first time but I think, they will issue a ticket or fine if you are caught again.
4. There's a free sex clinic in most cities that you can get checked anonymously and also for advise. I go here every 2-3 weeks. Depending on the frequency of my work.
5. There are alot of pretty girls on Kinky so make your ad stand out. Get a Dutch photographer who is familiar with the local market to do the photo shoot as she/he knows what/how/suggestions for your photos to cater the demands/stand out. I know a few and PM me if you need info.

Pretty much, I like my Dutch clients especially when I compare it to elsewhere. The ration of TWs is low. The Dutch clients are pretty polite, let you know if they are late or need to cancel etc. Most of them come earlier than the set time and some do overstay their welcome but it's usually just to chit chat. Most of them know the M.O and rules of the game.

If there are any questions, just gimme a shout. I might not be able to reply asap but I will try my best. Have a great week. Cheers xoxo

Thanks for the heads up! What city is DH? And as an independent do you live and work from the same place and when renting a place how do you find one?? Just the same way you would find as if you didn’t do this job? Or do those sex clinics have listings for apartments where owner allows us to work?
why have cotton when you can have silk???

DH is Den Haag which is Dutch for The Hague. It's a very international city as the European Patent Office, Shell, UN, Embassy, International Justice Court, NATO, Europol and all the international organisations are here. Safe to say that my clients come from all walks of life.

I came here as a student and work from the same place where I live. I think it's wise to find a flat that has lots of units in a building rather than a walk up apartment. People won't notice because of the busy traffic others are going in and out.

The sex clinic only provides testing, legal advise and tax advise. Perhaps you can look for housing in kinky or sexjobs. Sorry, I'm not able to give much info on that.

All the best ;)

Another option to cut cost is to live in Belgium or Germany but advertise in Dutch websites and travel for outcalls. The rates in Germany are quite low as there are alot of EE girls.
I'm not quite sure about Belgian market. However the housing in Belgium and Germany is cheaper than the housing in Netherlands.

thanks i would rather live in netherlands itself, not now though, but i am considering of working there in the near future for 6 months or so, i just hope everyone, including clients, speaks english there. As per apartment so you just rent a normal apartment and owner/agnecy shouldn't know, right?

No... I'm renting from a management company and they own the whole building, and they are not aware of that. I try to be extra careful too.

Yeah, if you want to do incalls, it's better to live in NL. The clients speak perfect English, especially the Dutch with some occasional Dutch thrown in between. The Turkish or Moroccans don't speak English too well but still alright.

At the moment are way to many controls from the police to girls who advertise on Kinky. I use to work myself with it and i had to give it up because they come to check me way to much. Is it not alowed to work from your own house or a hotel. They told me that even with a licence i can not do incalls only outcalls. Right now i m working in a private house in Amsterdam and work is pretty well

what do you mean a private house? do you rent it? or is it a place where girls come on a daily basis, the house people do all the advertising and answer calls and they a percentage of your earnings? i started like this as a newbie in london several years ago but the flats i worked took 50-60 of my earnings!! way too much.

This is why I love saafe, your input has saved me from a lot of  stress and losing a lot of money. I was about to pay €18,000 to rent a luxury apartment on the canals in Amsterdam to work from (6 months' rent upfront). Thanks to the helpful contributors. I appreciate you
