Tax: boob job as business expense?
« on: 11 September 2019, 12:58:48 pm »
... and if any of you girls have successfully claimed?

I am considering getting breast implants to enhance my appearance for work purposes - otherwise I wouldn’t bother to do them. I will be asking my accountant about it (they specialise in sex work) but would like to also ask on here.

Cheeky question I know but hey  ;D

It's HMRC who decide whether a claimed expense is acceptable, not accountants (who just put together your accounts and submit them to HMRC). You could ring the helpline and ask them?

Bear in mind that unless the people here who have put things like this through have been investigated by HMRC and specifically given the OK (and bear in mind that if you are investigated they'll want the last seven years' books) then any answer is useless to you. Putting something tenuous through a couple of years ago and it not being spotted isn't the same thing :).

I cannot see HMRC accepting this but ask them that is the only way to find out. Good luck but i am not expecting them to say yes but if you do not ask you don't get i suppose.

Nor would I, because any claimed expense has to be incurred 'wholly and exclusively' for work (so a cab fare to an outcall, say) and have no personal benefit at all. Any effect it has on your earnings is by the by - I don't put my hairdresser costs through even though I've had very high earning months since I changed the colour, because I didn't do it for punters and even if I had it would be impossible to prove.

We did have somebody posting the other day who apparently uses her teeth to do sex work though, so potentially worth a crack ;D.

??? fucking hell  ;D. I'm sorry but (and only my opinion) I don't know about the expenses thing for surgery so cannot comment BUT I do have implants (done years ago) and I just think why would you have something put in your body just for work reasons? yes I know to earn more money and all that but really??? not all guys like big fake or maybe natural boobs so if that's the reason you are doing it I would think long and hard, I would never have surgery just to earn more cash (I had mine done long before this job and just for me) sorry once again for going off track a bit.

If you think about all the other things we do or use for work which isn't tax deductible, it may make it clearer about surgery.

Hair
Nails
Make up
Waxing / hair removal
Eyelash extensions

And so forth....

I would have thought it would only be a business expense if you could prove you were e.g. a fake boob porn star.
