Potentially a 'how long is a piece of string' question but what size sponge is generally used?

I've used sea sponges and beppy sponges before when I had the contraceptive implant and had constant break through bleeding and never had a client mention it however since switching to the pill I'm having regular periods and they're no longer cutting it.

If I were to get a larger sponge and attempt to cut to size, what should I aim for? Any ladies found there's 'too large' and had a client feel it?

I've had 2 guys feel a spinge one gynotex and one beppy, (one of which kept going on about how he could feel my cervix I just let him waffle on seemed less awkward than explaining there s a sponge to stop a downpour of blood).
I really think only you can answer this? Could you try cutting it to a large size then "feel around" yourself? If you can feel it take it out trim it and try again? I feel like a penis unlike a hand won't know what a sponge feels like vs normal vagina feeling but I don't have a penis or one to ask?

I use sponge with some lube. If it's heavy flow I take painkillers . It actually stoppes the period. I only do it if I really cant miss the booking. Avoid working out, orgasms and red wine. Use pink condoms.

Clients compliment my tightness. I wonder why .

I buy the baby bath sponges cut them in half. Put a fresh one in for each booking. Then apply lube to myself before they arrive as sponges will make you dry.

Luckily my periods only last 4 days after changing to a plant based diet (used to be heavy for a whole week). I'm trying to naturally lighten the flow through diet, yoga and moon bathing.

It's been done to death, but sponges that aren't designed for menstrual use shouldn't be used as tampons; they're full of chemicals and shed tiny fragments that can embed themselves inside you and cause all sorts of problems. All the yoga in the world won't stop that.

That's a really good point. I buy unbleached natural sea sponge but I've had bits come loose. This is why it's important to get a pelvic exam every few months at the GUM clinic.

Just as a word of warning on sponges, a friend of mine has just spent the night in hospital having had TSS from using a sponge. She is not a sex worker but her partner is in the army she only gets to see him when he is on leave - hence need to have sex when she is "on". She was only bleeding slightly, inserted sponge 9pm (proper tampon sponge not cut down baby sponge... but she had rinsed and dried it from a previous use months earlier). She had sex without condom, did not remove or change the sponge and woke up at 5am with fever and shaking. She thought it was TSS, changed to normal tampax but feeling ill got worse and taken to A&E then kept overnight for observation. She is OK now but it shocked me that a sponge could do that. She should not have reused it or kept it in for so long and maybe the unprotected sex gave conditions for the bug to thrive. Always change back to proper tampon after sex and follow their instructions.

Sounds nasty but I think the cause is quite apparent here, hope she is ok. It's misleading to say she got it from using a sponge though, these things are meant to be disposable and she's rinsed it out, left it for months to collect God knows what bacteria on it and used it again, had sex and left it in several hours. I don't think it's that surprising that the sponge wasn't exactly clean and sterile. She won't do that again!

Has anyone invested in one of these? They are blankets designed for period sex, one side of if is designed to absorb and hide blood/fluids and the other side is a regular satin finish. Apparently there is no smell, no wetness or visible evidence, you just wash it on a cold wash and hang to dry. They are really expensive at £270 but appear to be sold out constantly. I think they are the same people who do the period pants.

Eep. I'm bumping this as I have I similar problem. I can feel my sponge but can't reach it. Its only been in a couple of hours thus far.

Am I OK to wait til tomorrow to see my GP or should I go to A&E tonight? Its pretty far for me.

I've used sponges plenty times before no problem. This one I think is a bit smaller than usual so has slipped up further.
