I've been wanting to get a flat out of my city centre and go out to the 'burbs near a major motorway interchange. But all the flats available seem to be in smaller buildings of perhaps six or eight flats. I did notice some that are on the ground floor and I think that would mitigate some of the issues. Also you need to consider the approach to the building and how many potential curtain twitchers there are. And the entry system - buzzing them is and having a camera is great but if someone on the ground floor at the front repeatedly hears similar things (That is, male voices saying "Hi, it's Bill - I'm here.") Then you need to work around that. Having them call you from across the street, perhaps, then asking them to cross and buzz a certain number.

I remember living in a flat where I kept hearing steps going up the back of my building - there were metal stairs on the outside leading to the car park from the first floor. I was in the flat at the end of the corridor, next to the external door. It didn't take me long to realise that I was hearing people climb the stairs and then not opening the door to the building. So, I looked out and saw some kids jump over the rail to the roof of the building next to me. Turns out there were squatters hiding in the rafters of the building next door. Point is, people do notice when something is unusual and will investigate.
