Working after cosmetic surgery
« on: 01 August 2013, 04:03:59 pm »
Hey everyone,

I've not had a holiday in years and I've found as I'm getting older, it's harder to manage my very disproportioned pear shaped figure - no matter what I do!  So I've decided to treat myself to Liposuction and I'm so excited  :D

I was wondering If anyone else has had any experiences (both good and bad) of any type of surgery and how long you were not able to work for?  How did clients react to any scarring or bandages, were they easy going with it or pissed off?  I'm getting lipo on my inner and outer thighs, buttocks, and hips and I'll have to wear a compression suit for a month night and day (fun and games lol) but I'm planning to remove it after 3 weeks for bookings only.  As soon as they've gone and I'm showered, i'll put it back on and only do one hour bookings max.  I figure I'll be able to get away with it like that.  I feel I can't take too much time off.  If there is a bit of scarring and bruising left, I'm hoping regulars will be understanding  :-\

I'm going to work very hard and budget incase the scarring and bruising takes a long time to heal and I don't feel up to working or not able to.

I think I have a sadistic side to my nature as I love to watch these programmes.

I just wanted to say, if you think 'going back' to escorting so early is a good idea I think it might be time to reconsider things.  You really shouldn't try and cut corners with your recovery.

I wouldn't consider getting it done without a months money behind me at least and then maybe I would ease myself in slowly.  Like they say baby steps before giant steps and running.

I know its not what you really want to read but our health is paramount in this business.

Good Luck.
Beauty is nothing to do with having a pretty face.
It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart,
And most importantly a beautiful soul.

I agree with LL, your recovery will be the most important thing. Surgery is very stressful on the body.

I broke my leg 2 mths ago and I am just starting to ease myself back into work. I hoped to work as soon as my cast was off but i under estimated how difficult it would be entertaining clients when your movement and mobility is restricted. It is also very tiring if you are not fully recovered. I have only been able to see 1 client a day for no more than an hour and they have to be trusted regulars!

I have a leg brace which I do take off for appointments but I have to be very careful. Without the support I am in danger of making my injury worse. I can imagine it would be similiar with post-surgery bandages etc.

I know it is a different situation  than having liposuction but I'm sure you might experience similiar problems. Definitely make sure you have money behind you first so you don't have to rush your recovery. I was very fortunate to have a tax rebate when I first injured myself and even had to claim some ESA based on my NI contributions. I was able to claim because it was an accident but if you elect to have surgery you may not be able to claim if there are complications or a longer than anticapated recovery period.

I hope that helps a little x

Hey  :) The one piece of advice (which I never took  :() was do listen to the recovery times.  They are there for a reason.  I had an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) 8 years ago, thought 'as if the recovery time will apply to me' ............... it did! In all honesty, you are paying for the results you really want, trust the professionals, and what is an extra week of not earning compared to what you have paid AND the results you want...................?

Good luck, and congrats on doing something you really want to do, it CAN transform your life xxx

I have had liposuction on my tummy, results were amazing !! The few days following surgery were not pleasant however and the bruising lasted for at least a month.

I had to take quite a long time off work but I knew that when I had it done, it was well worth it in the end.  It is best to buy some Arnica cream and tablets from health stores as this will help with the bruising :)

Hi there

I have just had surgery (boob job with implants and uplift) I was told to take 6 weeks off work, I went back after 4 BIG MISTAKE!!! Ive caused myself a longer healing process, more pain than necessary and more discomfort. My clients weren't grossed out but they were very aware so scared to touch me lol. I'm not happy with my boobs on top of everything else so looking to have revision surgery.

Lipo isn't something I need but I would like to have it so I have recently had a consultation and I was told again 6 weeks off work and 6 weeks in the garment.  If you don't wear the garment for the recommended time you WILL end up worse off as it may affect your end result and trust me you don't want to spend thousands on surgery then not follow the requirements.

Also another factor is infection. If your having sex with random strangers they're sweat and other bodily fluids may give you an infection.

I'd suggest either waiting till you give up this industry (assuming your planning to at some point) if you don't want to take too much time off OR save enough to keep you going while you recover and take the time you've been told to take off.

My family and friends don't know I am an escort so I went back to work out of sheer boredom and next time I have surgery I will definitely be doing what I'm told.

i had lipo at clinic Beacare in belgium a few years ago ( its a fraction of the cost of the uk  ?2300 compared to 6000 for 6 areas /3 sides

I didn't work for 6 - 8 weeks but i was on holiday anyway &   I did mine at christmas and then went away on holiday in january

I've also had a mini tummy tuck & lipo and  a boob job   as well and for all of them i was off for 6 weeks

what i will say about lipo particularly in the areas that your having is  that is changes your shape ,rather than permanent weight loss you can and will put the weight back on you will just be a different shape  than before  Prior to lipo i could wear jeans now i can even though I'm heavier than i was pre lipo

A lot of the weight loss is often down to the general anaesthetic / feeling like shit crap afterwards

if you bruise easily ( i do )  then the bruising & swelling is horrible  my ankles looked like a little old lady with water on the ankles i.e. really really swollen  and i couldn't sit on my ass  properly had to use a maternity rubber ring for the toilet

with the lipo that i had done which sounds similar to your's  i kept the adult baby grow on for 4 weeks once i was on holiday in Mexico it was to fucking hot so i only wore it at night and wore a bikini in the daytime with a wrap around me to hide any bruising but most of it had gone by then

I really wouldn't work for at least a month  and if you can go away on holiday then thats even better so that you relax totally

Make sure you have enough money to cover your bills  You really don't want to work when your feeling like shit

I would say that if your bottom heavy then personally i would try to lose some weight first,   If your prone to yo - yo dieting  then trust me lipo will change your shape initially  but you can and will put the weight back on eventually You will be a different shape but just as big
Sometimes  you will end up with loads of cellulite  if you can imagine a ballon taken out the air and not replacing it it goes saggy  well thats lipo for you
Sorry if that sounds negative  but I'm trying to be realistic  i don't regret having lipo and I'm sure that i would have more but I'm more into doing boot camps a few times a year and losing weight that way

I've just done a two week residential boot camp and lost over a stone -  Im going back to do another 2 weeks in a few weeks time   You will get healthy fit and lose weight at the same time

Thank you ladies kindly for the very insightful advice.  Definitely some major things to be aware of.  I feel much more prepared now.

Arnica cream and tablets sounds like the way forward to help speed up the healing.  Great tip!

Also many thanks to Pinkie as she pm'd me with her personal experience too and I found it a great help!

I'm going to exercise portion control and move my ass some more before my treatment.  I literally cannot wait, I've been miserably pear shaped my whole life.  Thanks to this job I can now afford it.

I used Arnica but there's no real evidence that it really works. Some people use arnica for a week before surgery and a week afer but if you read the bottle it does say only use for 5 days.

Also pre op you should try and have your body clean and clear of everything, have a clear system as certain herbal things can cause complications. Garlic for example is in a lot of herbal things and it causes you to bleed a lot more (you don't want that during surgery) We don't really know whats in Arnica so if you want to use it I'd use it starting the day after surgery and continue for 5 days (that's what I did)

xx

P.S I don't think any amount of cream or arnica will make much difference to bruising when it comes to lipo as bruising is just one of the downfalls of having that procedure.

I was wondering if anyone has had Laser lipo/ any simular procedure and how much time they took off working for it?

The clinics site recommends 3 days off but our work is a bit more..... Physically demanding than others so I was wondering if more time should be taken off before returning to work.

Any pearls of wisdom would be greatly appreciated thanks  ;D

I have only had my boobs done, was told to take 2 weeks off work but with this type of work I took 4 weeks off since I was bored but really should have taken 6 weeks off. I am having another boob job next year so will be taking 6 weeks off for sure that time.

ParisB is the best person to ask about this sort of stuff cause she's had lipo and things.

I am thinking of having the laser lipo too since its far less intrusive than actual lipo just to get rid of little bits that annoy me.

I had lipo on my thighs and hips six weeks ago and I'm still healing!  Still have some bruising and the 8 little incision scars are very very visible.  I'm still swollen on the back of my legs and it took so long to heal.  I was pretty shocked at how much pain I was in and the recovery time.  I guess everyone will be different but I wasn't able to work for 4 weeks no way.  I was still stiff and in pain getting up and walking.  Stockings do a great job of hiding all the incision marks and the fading bruises, but I have two little incision scars on either side of my groin and that's not an area you want little purple/red marks in this job lol I've covered them up with some concealer and it works a treat.  You'll also have wear a compression suit for months.  They told me to wear mine night and day for 4 months which I'm doing, but obviously take it off to see clients.

Everyone is going to recover differently, but just ensure you budget and work your arse off before your procedure so you have a months back up and can relax during your healing without stressing yourself to return to work before you're physically able to.

Arnica cream and tablets (little pestules) helped massively with the worst of the bruising and swelling.  I was very impressed with the product.  You can get these from boots.  Lipo is extremely painful, so just be prepared.  I'm really pleased with the results so far though   ;D

The best way to decide if you can go back to work or not is when the pain has gone.  Lipo for some can be bloody painful for weeks or months even.  Everyone has a different reaction.  I know when I had mine I had it done on my ribs area and was black and blue and it hurt to even breathe for almost 3 months.  Another woman had hers doen at the same time and had hardly any bruising and barely any pain and was back to work the following week.
It does depend on your body.
Arnica pills for 3 weeks before and after can help with the bruising

At the end of the day its best to save enough incase your body reacts badly afterwards with swelling, bruising and pain so that you don't have to rush back to work when your body is not ready.

I would say though that most surgery takes around 4-6weeks to get over and be healed properly and sometimes longer so as long as you have enough money put by for a couple of months of work then you don't have to worry and if you are better quicker than that then you will still have savings left over for a little holiday
Truth is far more important than what one wants to hear. With truth there is no us and them or colour or religion there is just fact

OK Im probably at the extreme end of it as i bruise incredibly easily  I only have to hit a door or carry a bag on my shoulder thats to heavy and i get bruised

i would say that your paying a fair whack of money so don't waste it by being in a hurry to get back to work
I normally had mine done in jan as I'm always away for 3 - 4 weeks anyway so it normally just an extra 1 or two weeks that I'm off and not working

6 weeks for lipo   i had hips and thighs done a few years ago in Belgium  i was joking that i would be up and about and going shopping reality i was flat on my ass watching re runs of faulty towers and feeling sorry for myself
Although 3 weeks after i was on holiday in Mexico in a bikini but i was still bruised and a bit swollen and wouldn't have been able to work and i had to wear a sarong to hide the bruise on my hips   and still sleep in the baby grow lol

The first two weeks though iwas bruised like i had done 10 rounds with mike tyson and then got hit by a truck  my ankles were swollen and  i coulnt even see my toes   You know what those little old ladies with really swollen ankles are like well that was me but i had nice painted toe nails courtesy of my darling sister

I was driving after two week though

Boob job 6 weeks they were so big they walked into the room before me very tender and sensitive

mini tummy tuck & lipo  6 weeks   worse thing ever  sneezing crying laughing coughing brought intense pain  though i was going to die  one day but it was indigestion
couldn't stand up straight for a week or 10 days but each day it got better
couldn't drive for 3 weeks  and couldn't walk my dog for 3 weeks in case he pulled me over
but again i was on holiday around 3 weeks after although i was still badly bruised around the hips area

and In my experience  lipo does not get rid of your fat  ( well it does but if you don't change your diet /lifestyle ) you will put it all back on just in a different area
and its more about changing you shape than weight  Ie i was hip heavy  I'm still hip heavy but a better shape for wearing jeans and stuff  before i could get jean over my thighs but then the waist would be massive baggy on me

Now i can as I'm more in proportion
