Talking about sex services via email
« on: 29 February 2012, 06:59:14 pm »
Okay, so as I understand the escorting business is legal as long as you are working alone indoors, for an agency or brothel.  Thanks to sw5.

There's a site called UK National Escort Association that states the following:

"You are an escort and working professionally. You don't want your clients to have the wrong information about the services you provide.  Make it absolutely clear to him that whatever you get paid officially is only for the time spent with you. This involves companionship.  Do not mention anything about sex when communicating over phone or email. It could get you in trouble with the law in the UK.

Is that right? I can't think how it could be?  ??? If you're running your business then surely you have to discuss what services you offer. You wouldn't go to any other business without finding out about the services they offer first. ...just worried because I intend to ask my clients to email me with any questions re. my services because I don't want to waste time on the phone and not get a booking in the end.

Confused  :-[

No, it is not right - I have no idea what this site is or where they've got their information from (I suspect it's the US) but talking about selling, offering to sell or selling sex in the UK is perfectly legal and always has been. As is buying it.

The only offence even vaguely relating to this is soliciting, which only concerns public places and is a public order offence along with others which cause a public nuisance. Even then the exchange of money for sex is not illegal, it's loitering or approaching somebody with the intention of doing so that is.

There is no such thing as the UK National Escort Association in any credible, official sense and this reeks of a new tack by the scammers, to me at least. I wonder at what point they'll start asking people for money for something?

EDIT: Having just skimmed the content of this site, I can categorically say that it is possibly the biggest pile of steaming horseshit I have encountered in an extremely long time. It is clearly cut and pasted from something Stateside (much of the spelling is American) and the 'advice' is so bad it's almost funny if there wasn't a slim chance that somebody might believe it. They're actually recommending people use Paypal, ffs ::).

Thanks for clearing that up for me Amy  :D

I thought it didn't sound right! It's 'uknationalescortsassociation.co.uk'  It has a lot of articles about the industry but is clearly quite misinformed.

I'll steer clear of it, thanks again :)

Having checked the domain reg (and upon looking, the websites are virtually identical) it's an offshoot of EscortFX, who are bloody website designers of all things, not sex workers (not that folk can't be both, but in this case it's pretty clear they're not).

Perhaps they ought to stick to what they know, and leave prostitutes to do likewise.

Yeah, I think they're really after selling expensive agency websites and the text is there to get search engine hits.

From their 'terms and conditions'

Quote
The website administrator does not make any warranty or representation that information on the website is appropriate for use in any jurisdiction (other than great britain (sic)).

If they don't know that the legal system in Scotland is different from that in England and Wales, how much reliance can you put on their views?

Like Amy said, complete crap.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

I just looked at this website.......jeez what a pile of crap.

The scarey thing is someone thinking of escorting might stumble accross it and take it as gospel.
