020 3 Landline
« on: 15 June 2018, 04:20:14 pm »
Hello,

Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere but would you be wary of taking an outcall to a man saying his landline was an 020 3 number please?  He texted me and that mobile number hasn’t come up on here or Ugly Mugs but he said to speak about the booking he wanted to call me from his landline which has the 020 3 number.  His text was perfectly normal but just not sure whether to bother as searching the number didn’t bring up anything but I did see apparently 020 3 numbers are a scammers paradise lol.

Many thanks,

LB

If you are concerned ask him to send you a bill in the last 3 months which matches the name and address he gave you.

020 3 numbers are for many areas i think around London.

Hi English Green,

Many thanks, he hasn’t given me his full name but I will contact him just to see what’s up.  I just didn’t want to waste any time in case it was bogus as it is strange he texted with a mobile then gave me a landline.

Many thanks,

LB

Some 020 3 numbers are London landlines, 020 7 and 020 8 having more or less run out, and some are used as virtual landlines - the caller gets charged as for calling a landline, but they can be answered anywhere.

If you want to do outcalls best way to avoid timewasters or fake jobs ask them to camera shot a bill which proves the address is where you are coming to and send it to you're phone this stops a lot of the shit messers.

I've been getting calls from one of those numbers! I am in Scotland though and have never seen a number like that which wasn't from a call centre.

My old office/work number was an 0203 one. As XW5 says, it's just because the 0207 numbers were beginning to run out, so I think businesses especially were given 0203 instead (my company had about 500 employees).

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses.  It was strange as to me it did seem to be a work/business number and didn’t realise London was running out of the usual.  I will ask him to call me just so I’m not charged myself ... I sincerely hope that wasn’t his version of scamming me lol.

Thanks all and have a great weekend!

I would too (or at least I would if I took calls from landlines, which I don't). I wouldn't ever call a number a punter had given me because I wouldn't have any way of knowing whose it was :).
