Title: Where to buy sex toys?
Post by: seraphine on 16 June 2018, 10:41:12 am
I had to buy some stuff, like feather ticklers and a Wartenberg pinwheel.
I thought that what I got before via Amazon was not the best quality, so I ordered from Lovehoney.
Just received my order and I'm disappointed to be honest. Am I unreasonable or is it overpriced?  ???
Wartenberg wheel I will definitely return - it was 13 quid and it's blunt  :FF
I have an old one that I bought years ago via Amazon (for £6), it's excellent but it's discontinued now.

Does anyone have any recommendations where to buy a decent Wartenberg wheel, please?

I was given Ann Summers feather tickler by a client and all this stuff doesn't look much better than what you can find on AliExpress for like a dollar...  ???
I haven't bought anything via AliExpress yet but it looks like a good option - quality comparable to what is being sold in sex shops but much much cheaper.

I only use LH when they have a serious sale on something, but their returns policy is wonderful.

Aliexpress is mixed. Much of it is very cheap, but some of it is cheap for a reason and - depending on what you get - you may find yourself with your post person knowing rather a lot about your sex life because of how it is described on the customs form. Many of the vendors there now will also not be there next year, which is annoying when you find a good source for something.

The airmail prices from China are so low, I am surprised no-one has made an official complaint on trade barrier lines: you can't post a letter here for what it costs to send a packet from there... And yes, once you know your way around it, you will spot lots of things on sale in markets, eBay etc here that make you go 'I know where you got that from, and how much you paid'.

Thank you xw5!
This made me think - I wouldn't mind spending a bit more on better quality toys (and if they were made in the UK it would be even better), but toys that would have to last longer, like this pinwheel for example.
But it looks like most of these sex shops are supplied by not that great (and not pretty!), cheap stuff and just put their brand and a markup on it.
After a quick look online, I found a range of ethical sex toys from SheSaidBoutique, which is a nice idea.

For toys that are more 'disposable', like feather ticklers (that can endure only as much cleaning and due to hygiene need to be replaced fairly often) - I would go for low quality AliExpress stuff.

Hmm... I'm looking at 'sexy massage oils', 250ml bottle for ridiculous price and I'm thinking - wouldn't a good carrier oil and some essential oils added to it be as good and a fraction of a price?
I'm all for marketing but come on...

Okay, one last rant but these things from sex shops look the same. Same colour palette (black, red, purple; oh and pink).
Cat toys are more colourful and diverse than sex toys  :D  Or am I looking in the wrong places?

I checked on Etsy and there is quite a selection of butt plugs haha :) (glowing in the dark!) and other more creative things, like nipple and clitoral jewellery, floggers etc...

Personal conclusion: if you can do it yourself!  :)

Feather ticklers - can be simply done with feathers that are cheap (and colourful!) online.
Fragranced massage oils - with essential oils.
I just found plenty of YouTube videos on how to make your own massage candles. You can then design your own label and put it on the lid.
You can make your own floggers.
I remember that Paris has been advising using old stockings and velcro for bondage.

Yes, I think a 'pick and mix' approach is the way to go. And yes, there's an awful lot of overpriced crap out there.

I have had some good stuff from LH but much of what they do is cheaply made and expensive for what it is. I did like their silver seducer vibrator and I have had 3 but they don't last too long. Good vibrators are to be had at Boots - they do the Swoon brand (well made but the batteries go flat when it is switched off). The Durex bullet is good (you can even get that in Tescos) and I have a new full sized Durex multispeed which is excellent and well made - strangely they don't sell that in Boots - bought it online from the Durex website. I used to have the Durex Alure version but it got worn out (still use it as dildo even when it won't buzz - great shape) and it seems that you can only get it in France - I need to plan a french tour to get another one!
