Setting up a directory is easy, it's getting it ranked high in the search engine listings so clients will see it that's the big problem.

Yes, and in order for that to happen you need a lot of money and resources. 🙂

I was thinking that it could be added as a link to individual's website/ social media.
It would be relatively small but trusted.
Hmm?...

Like in addition having a 'Friends' page with let's say 3 pals you're doing duo with, you can add a link to the directory and say - here's a directory with independents, organic and home-grown  :P. Boom. I don't know.
People have banners with directories on their websites. It could be a banner.
From what I know Craigslist started as a mailing list, right?
We could set up our own small platform. With the intention that it's a non-profit and it can increase visibility for the independents.

That's not  a bad idea but it involves a lot of time and energy.. ???

We could crowdfund the IT side of it.
And run it as a co-operative. Like people growing vegetables together...  :)  :)  :D

Yes!!!!

I believe that was the intention behind switter.com, but everytime i go in there it looks like a sex worker's twitter  ??? great to network with the sex industry providers but really not intended for business.

It's not the most recent example of somebody's Next Big Idea but it was the easiest to find. I suppose it makes a change from punters banging on about how they could do it.

I remember a couple of other people trying the same thing and as Kazzle says, the problem isn't cobbling a site together, it's getting it seen. And even that's going to be childs play compared with getting punters to use it - if we/they don't use the many well-established directories already up and running then what is the point of having more and spreading the ads even thinner?

Personally i don't have the time not the energy to get involved into what is a big project to be honest, but what I'm going to do is try to promote bedpage as the new alternative. So i'm going to send a newletter to absolutely everybody in my inbox (hundreds of people and clients) telling them about the new site as the "alternative". i'm also promoting it on twitter and twatter as much as I can. I would reccomend ladies and gents here to spread the word too. However I might do a monthly newletter from now on, that's it's a great idea.

Its a bit like the chicken or egg or rather a case of what come first the escorts or the punters

Do the punters follow the escorts to the popular site or the escorts follow the punters

At the moment probably the best thing to do is if you have your own website to look at google see what directories come up on the fist 3 pages under the relative Escort words that you think guys will find you and add your self to these sites

If you don't have a website start thinking about getting one - don't just rely on your AW to file because if that goes down your screwed  but you can link your website to your AW profile

Around 2 years ago and for many many years my website was on page 1 of google for my area and surrounding areas

My website and details were and still are on practically every site apart from 2 directories on the first 3 pages of google for most of my area that I live in in the southwest

My website is now page 2 on google for my local areas but I'm going to do some work to get back to page 1
I've updated all the adds I have on the directories and plan to check these every 2 weeks even if they don't get me any work straight away if they are free then it's worth it

I'm going to start bloggging more as I always found that worked in moving my website up especially if I mention the names of  cities

And I'm going to make a point of tweeting more and including certain locations as that also helps as well

The problem a lot of people are having is that they rely on one form of advertising and when it goes down your basically screwed which is what has happened to BP and a lot of escorts that only advertised on it

Also for those of you that are BP reliant or even if your not reliant on BP start tweeting about Bedpage or start blogging about it it all helps for guys to find it although i think it will be ranked pretty high in a few weeks naturally

Well, I thought it was just a Twitter for sex workers. However there is an impromptu listing there: listings.switter.at
Looks like they already are starting to grow vegetables together  :) !

Thank you for your thoughts, Paris, very helpful as always! x

On the topic of massage - I have a massive issue with advertising on Gumtree or any other place that would require innocent wording and pretending to be a straight masseuse.
If I could explain it all clearly when they call me, that's fine but if I have to be vigilant of a call from Gumtree, then I can't say anything over the phone. And then what... A client comes over expecting a proper massage.
It messes up my business and messes up businesses of straight massage therapists. And helps to create a culture where clients push massage therapists for HE, which must be absolutely horrible for them.

Bedpage is currently under maintenance. I am hoping it's to improve the listings and not as a preventative measure as to what happened with Backpage.

It's been up and down more often than my knickers the past 2 days. I suspect they don't have enough bandwidth to deal with the current mass invasion.
