Well, I don't want to walk away from my much more modest income either... Googling 'Backpage alternatives' now

Brainstorming the massage... No comparison to Backpage, but hey, every little helps

- loot.com: looks pretty full on
- freeads.co.uk: wording 'for gentlemen only' seems to fly
- ukclassifieds.co.uk
- massages.me.uk: looks more legit than it is
- crazyoz.com, locanto.co.uk
- massagemeinlondon.co.uk, massagehunter.co.uk, massageguidelondon.com

More obvious ones:
- AW, Vivastreet, Gumtree, Yelp, Friday Ads, Craigslist
- FBSM, tantrictemptationslondon.com, ukmassagenetwork.com
- massagetheuk.com, massagerepublic.com, acemassage.net
- Slixa, Eros, punternet.com

I tried looking at Bedpage but like others have said it is sooo slow.
I noticed that one lady was advertising with Google ads which may be worth a shot. I expect she's paying per click but her ad was very prominent in the search results.
Another idea which I'd like to try is getting guys to sign up to a mailing list and sending out a newsletter with chit chat and tour dates every week or so. Thinking aloud here but perhaps I could sign them up after each session to keep guys in the loop. Has anyone tried this?

A mailing list is an excellent idea, Grace!
I'm not sure for how long Google or any other mainstream platform will be sex work-friendly (not that they are now), but we should be prepared that we can be eradicated from the mainstream.
Therefore it's worth to have a safely-hosted website, email (protonmail being the most popular it seems, protonmail.ch rather than .com and in March proton also introduced pm.me) and indeed build your own mailing list.
I'm not sure if newsletter/ e-commerce platforms like mailchimp accept sex workers?
I'm also thinking of having a 'texting list' - a small number of clients might be interested in receiving an occasional update.

And being connected to the community. Switter is a fantastic example of people taking things in their own hands  :)
If not for Saafe, I would feel desperate and hopeless after disappearance of Backpage.

Hi 80's, yes I think a mailing list could be good! Does Protonmail offer the option to automate a list? I doubt if Mailchimp would allow sex workers but it's certainly worth checking. (Although if you kept the mails fairly vanilla and didn't mention anyhing sex work related they wouldn't need to know!)
I agree we are going to have to start thinking out of the box now because whatever happens in America usually follows on here after a while.

Mailchimp require you to provide a physical address, and since this isn't hidden from anybody subscribing it's unlikely to be appropriate for us.

If your site or blog is Wordpress, there are myriad plugins which can do you a mailing list/newsletter. I've had one set up ready to go on mine for about two years but for some reason I haven't got round to it yet :).

Ah, that would definitely be a problem Amy! There's no way Im giving them my address. Although maybe a cheap mailbox would be an alternative.
I'm using Wix so I'll see if it has any plug ins. Thanks :)

I'm not sure how a mailing list would work on proton but I think that some website plugin, as Amy suggests, would be a better option.

I had a client today (reg) and asked him if he initially found me on Backpage.
He said he can't remember, somewhere on the internet, he googled 'erotic massage [my area]'.

So far, directories such as BP are/were giving us some visibility but once they are gone, all is left on top of Google are agencies - and that's where traffic will go to. We as independents will be swallowed by Tescos and Amazons of the sex industry.
The little ones will be gone, unless you're in a remote area or are great at SEO.
As I read in one of VC's posts, the high ranking of Backpage and similar sites comes from the fact that sex/ personals are only a part of their ads. They are mainstream.
Once we're pushed out from the main stream of traffic, we're loosing a lot of business.
We will be pushed to the virtual sex ghetto.

That's why we should fight nail and teeth to stay in the mainstream.
How to do it? By supporting Myles Jackman and Pandora Blake on Patreon (at can be as little as a dollar a month).
Supporting openrightsgroup.org
That's all I can think of. If anybody has more ideas, please share. My understanding of the situation is pretty basic and I'm still trying to work out what's going on.

Another thought - is it really that difficult to set up a directory?
I mentioned earlier a jackass contacting me from sensual-massage-whatever directory. It looked so bad. And he (or she) wanted to charge 30 quid a month to be listed there. If a jackass can set up his website/ directory, it can't be that difficult.

Can we set up our own directory for independents, something like a non-profit collective?
Something that can be shared/ circulated?
Like a 'Friends' page that you can see on some sex worker's websites.
I don't know. Any thoughts?...

Setting up a directory is easy, it's getting it ranked high in the search engine listings so clients will see it that's the big problem.
