I always book a room as 2 adults, otherwise you might get less towels in the room.

Unless you can hear from another SW who has worked there recently, it's always best to pop into hotels and check them out as workable before you book. Basic requirements:
  • Reception is big enough that men won't be walking in the door and immediately have a member of staff in their face
  • Lifts are easy to find so men can come in the door and walk straight there and not stand around looking lost
  • Lifts must be operated without a keycard
  • Room corridors must be open without a keycard (although if lifts are okay you could collect customers at the lift)

Additionally I prefer rooms which have a fridge, a safe, a spyhole, and some form of chain for the door.

You can check the basic requirements by walking into the hotel, getting in the lift and picking a floor at random and walking down like you're going to a room. You can also check for spyholes as you do this.

As for staff noticing, if it's a big hotel this is very unlikely unless you are seeing punters late at night. Once someone gets in the lift, reception won't have a clue where they are going. Cleaning staff in my experience generally don't care. As long as you don't disturb other guests, pay your bill and don't trash your room, you shouldn't have any problems.

I'd booked a room for 3, which wasn't ready, they offered a 2 room,  got in there only 1 bath towel & 1 bath mat no other towels! Went to maid who told me laundry delivery had missed them today. Talk about stress!

Thanks so much ladies!  All your replies are greatly appreciated.

Urm, possible silly question... When looking at /booking a hotel room, do you book for one adult or two?  Do they get suspicious if you have a revolving door of men?  I'm looking at rates on the 4 / 5* larger hotels in Adelaide that at least have high foot traffic.
I always book for 2 doesn't make usually much or any difference , plus If I drive and they ask my reg/ plate number I say my husbands coming later but I don't know when or if he'll turn up or what in as he's coming from work so may b his car or his van ...and ask if they want his registration number when he gets here , they have always said no , but I pick hotels that hold functions especially at Christmas time .

Scarlett, if you click on the Search button above and try things like 'hotel incalls' you'll find an awful lot of information about this already here which might save your thread getting completely derailed and your other points not being addressed. There's also the Touring article on the main SAAFE site which has plenty about working from hotels :).

I always use chain name hotels and have to say you can always ask for one additonal set of towrls without arousing suspicion. The number if people you book for is irrelevant in major hotels as security and housekeeping staff arent going to check that. The only thing to be wary if is that sometimes if you book for single occupancy the room rate will be lower but you will (in some hotels) get put in the smallest rooms (Radisson/Park Inn/Other Carlson hotels are particularly guilty of this)

As for keycards. When youre brand new you might want to avoid hotels with them until you get comfortable. Once youre more used to it you can work around them if you choose (stairs/hidden cards/sending down lifts etc)

My biggest advice dont be too truthful with clients. Telling them where youre from. Where you went to university etc can be used against you. Change it slightly and repeat when necessary. Also when duscussing bookings dont write anything incriminating  in text or email especially hotel details and room number as it can be used as evidence if you get someone nasty who wants to cause problems at the hotel

Good luck!
