Where do you get the most business from?/time wasters
« on: 16 October 2008, 07:14:29 pm »
Hi, new to this site.  I have been advertising on AW for several months and been quite successful. I have recently asked in the punterlink forum for advice on increasing business and as a result have set up a 69design template profile which is now linked to punterlink etc.

I have been amazed at the timewasters arising from the website/punterlink.  Is there any point? Witheld numbers, people asking what services you offer - (clearly shown on site), or those saying "OK will ring you back to organise something". The phone ringing is annoying enough - compared with the email system on AW - but everyone in this last week on the phone has been a time waster.

Do you ladies actually get work this way? I have signed up for 2mths to the template but I'm not sure my sanity is worth it.  I get about 10-15 bookings a week from AW - are the other sites worth pursuing? Thoughts please

I'm sorry the site isn't going well for you. The timewasters might be going after you because you've just popped up, I'd say it's worth waiting a couple of months for the new girl period to wear off.

Personally I get very little action at adultwork, those who find me there and then book do so by following the link to my real website and calling me.

A drawback of having your own website is that while you can see how many hits you get from each site you have a listing on, it's very hard to tell where the actual clients are coming from. For a few weeks I tried asking all my clients how they found me, but most couldn't remember anything past "I got to your website from a directory", so I went back to not asking and just having a few who'd mention it anyway. When they do it's Punterlink that comes up the most, so that site works for me.

Same, and Punternet also. I have had repeat business from both. Only one promising thus far from AW, and a lot of timewasting emails. Although, I am still very much the new girl on the block my timewasters seem to have decreased!

Same as Anika Mae - I do get some good jobs from Adultwork but not masses, the vast majority come through my website although when I have asked clients, a good few got my number by clicking through to my site from my AW profile. I get the most site traffic from Punterlink and Punternet, as well as AW (in that order). I get far more timewasting emails through Adultwork than anywhere else.

Timewasters on the phone are part and parcel unfortunately, although you do get better at spotting them as time goes on! It might sound blindingly obvious to the point of silly, but if you really don't want to answer phone calls have you thought about only taking initial enquiries by email? Just don't put a number on your site - if a client is interested and sends a promising and genuine-sounding email you can always pass on your number in a reply at a later point. I know some ladies do this, particularly those who have other commitments and are not often able to answer their phones during the day.

My phone manner is generally crap, and it is sometimes a real effort to answer the same set of daft questions for the nth time that day, but that comes with the territory - not everyone has the time or the inclination to read every word of a website (the classic 'can I have some details?' is the one that is like nails down a blackboard ;D). I have the legend 'text messages will not be answered' right underneath my number on every page of my site, and I still get at least three or four a day.

Frankly, as I am getting paid ?130+ per hour, I have learned to live with it.

yeah i get all the crappy time wasters which i wouldnt mind so much if i was getting atleast a few decent bookings a week.  I stay polite with them though because Im still new and havent gotten impatient with it yet (YET!).

I seriously think im doing something wrong on AW though because i often ask guys where they get my details from and no one has ever said AW yet.  I do get a few emails from them, usually asking for free photo sessions or other bizzare requests but rarely about an actual booking.  I find some of the emails qute amusing really.  In my first week or two i received loads of emails but i havent had any for ages really, its all timewasting phone calls which again, i dont mind at this stage because its a good learning tool for how to sort the wheat from the chaff.  I'm getting really good at spotting them but still i always stay polite just incase..... story of my life that though lol

I have been on aw since starting out in Feb 2007.  Initially things were slow but with time picked up.

With aw, I think it is important to try to build up a feedback rating if possible so ask clients to book on the site booking form system and then ask them to put feedback on for you and vice versa.

Whilst AW receives a lot of criticism, both positve and negative, I have to say it has been very good to me and the majority of my business does come from there.

I set up my website about 4 months ago and from that and mainly via links from punternet, I have had not so much massives of bookings but the bookings I have received have indeed been very big money earners and have also now a regular who is very generous indeed.

It is well worth paying the ?12 per month to punternet in my opinion.

It all takes time and is difficult to assess.

I would get clients from aw who say they have never seen me on there before although I have been there for over a year!

I think sometimes as well you have to think about this men and computers............. say no more!!!!

Take care
love

Thanks for the advice.  ?12 a month is very reasonable compared to the ?5 a day from AW.  That said, I get at least one booking a day if not more from AW so its worth the investment.  I tend not to get bookings unless I have the green light on!  I think AW is great as you dont have to answer the ****head emails, just ignore them.  Also you can check out their feedback.

Yet to get a booking from Plink or my template website - just annoying phone calls. Plus despite stating clearly no witheld numbers they nearly all do.

Re withheld numbers, I do answer them and ask them to ring back with a real number, needless to say no one does!

I get a lot from 'unknown' I don't know if this is the same as withheld or maybe comes from hotels or offices, I know I've had some interest where I haven't answered an unknown and then got an email saying 'I called you but I don't know if the work number was hidden...'

I may try answering a few and saying to phone back from a non-withheld number. 99% might never call back or be timewasters, but if 1% do call back from a clear number and make a booking then it might be worth it.

This is what I do. Sometimes I can't be arsed to deal with what's probably a timewaster so I don't, but when I do I get enough that do call back.

I put an ad on vivastreet last week after a tip from punterlink.  I had a missed called so I rang it back and the answerphone said metropolitan police. Weird.  I then had a call an hour later from the same number asking for details and did I offer a full service, so I denied all knowledge.

Im sure it was the bloke playing a twisted game but it freaked me out none the less and I pulled my ad off.

That is freaky, but you don't need to worry about the police. If you work on your own in the UK you're not breaking any laws.

What was the number? Feel free to PM me...
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

Damn Right Girl !!
 ;D ;D
Im afraid the only way to learn how to weed out the timewasters is by bitter experience , and yes they always target you when your new . Im past the new girl stage , but i still get the odd silly request . And as Amy said above - the endless same old question " can i have some details please?" is starting to drive me mad !! You will soon get a sense for who the genuine guys are - it took me a good 6 months to start to suss them out !! Some of them do seem genuine and are not though - so i still get caught out now , but not as much as i used to .

What i will say is be wary with outcalls , its a lot less stressfull if someone does a no show at your place , but if youve traveled for miles for nothing then thats a real wind up .

I agree !! AW has its bad points but you can ignore and BLOCK the silly ones !! 99% of my work comes from there , with the other 1% from a local punting board . I did get a free template site up and running ( rare escorts ) , so i could link to other listing sites and boards , but ive had nothing good come from it , hence i havemt updated that site for a very long time !! Maybe i should !!???
