I was a hostess for about 9 months in three clubs and they were all a bit different. But essentially you are allowed to ?go out? with clients (leave with them after they?ve brought you a certain amount of champagne) although some you can be open with it and others you have to be more clandestine!
I had fun with the girls who worked there- it was a wild and somewhat inebriated time! But in terms of a business opportunity, I wouldn't recommend it. If you don't get picked to sit and drink with a guy, you earn literally nothing on a 7 hour shift. And the champagne commission isn't great- the two I worked in, you had to talk a guy into selling two premium bottles (?150+) and then he was allowed to "take you out" - you negotiated your own fee. If they didn?t take you out you made ?50 for an evening being perved over.
Good points were you got to vet clients first in terms of psychotic personality tendencies, you meet them in a safe place and you didn't have to leave with them if you don't want to.
Bad points-
1. you are seriously drunk by the time you do leave with them (no matter how hard you try not to, it is impossible to pour an entire bottle of champagne into a pot-plant and so you do have to make an effort to drink your way through the two bottles).
2. The one I worked for- you had to come back after the deed was done and work the rest of the night! (the club manager sometimes called the guys to see if you?d left or not to make sure you hadn?t gone home- unbelievably controlling!)
3. you are pretty much fighting for measly morsels of work with a lot of other women. You really do have to work hard to get a customer to "pick you" and then take you out, and if your client has been the only guy in all evening (on a good night we'd get 5 guys in and there were always at least 8 girls working), you are going to face bitchy comments... and if you?d had a client the night before, there was an unspoken etiquette of having to "sit out" any guys who come in the following night if you don't step on other girls toes and keep friends in the place.
I was young and hostessing got me into escorting- it was fun for the frame of mind I was in, and I do have fond memories of it (despite the above!) So if you are really curious about it then I wouldn?t say there was any harm in doing a few shifts in one- they are lots of girls do disappear after sticking out two or three nights! BUT, if you have already been escorting then I would think hard about what on earth it could offer you. Essentially you are just sitting in a dingy seedy club that forces you to waste 9pm-4am every night getting tarted up and fighting for attention, (being controlled by small time pimps).
