Good that he showed up. I would have taken the booking but if another more solid offer came about would have reconsidered, knowing he cancelled on my friend.
I think it's a little unwise to be rah rah about the sisterhood and reject him on the basis that he cancelled on a friend. Me, I'm running a business and he's a paying punter. People change their mind and he did give notice to said friend. I think if I booked at Restaurant A and then saw a more appealing option at Restaurant B and cancelled my reservation at A, I would be perplexed if restaurant B said that they wouldn't take my booking as I had cancelled at A owned by their friend.
