Hello ladies, I work independently from the premises where Landlord knows what I do, but turns the blind eye. Two police officers visited the place earlier this week on the basis that there's been reports of too many people coming/going. Luckily I wasn't with the customer and said I was just visiting. It was obvious they knew what was going on but they were friendly ok and offered help if I was forced into sex work etc They also took my details and left. My questions are - has anyone had this before and what is the likelihood of them taking the matter any further and is it safe for me to continue working from there. Also if they do come back and I am 'visiting' again what would be the consequences. I am still a bit stressed over it and any advice would be appreciated. Thank you x

They seemed friendly to you and only concerned with you're well being. Some police can be nice and some i know of have harassed indies even though they are doing nothing wrong. I have had a couple of different experiences one visit they we're helpful and only concerned if i was pushed into it and left there card and said do not worry about neighbours the other was a horrible situation of a warrant and multiple police at least 6 officers telling me i must move on or they could cause trouble and they searched the entire place and body searched me. Awful situation and i left the place and area and never returned.

I don't think there's much else you can do, if you fib it's not looked upon very well.
I find police nosy, 'opportunities for information gathering' is a polite phrase used by a relative of mine.

Thank you for your replies ladies, am in Berks, it’s quite busy well known location. Started looking for other places to work from as I’m constantly on the edge and can’t relax when with customers

That's Thames Valley who used to be rather patchy when it came to sex work stuff. I don't know what they're like now.
I'm presuming "quite busy well known location" translates as 'brothel' - somewhere more than one person works, even if not at the same time. It's not illegal for you to work there, but they tend to be higher on the list of police priorities than people working alone, even if this was a visit rather than a raid to close the place.
"Don't annoy the neighbours" follows closely after "get the money first" in the sex work bible. If other people aren't following that advice, it is time to look elsewhere.

If it is a place where you have the place for a couple of days and someone else does also then that will be classed as a brothel if the landlord is letting it out to different workers so if that is the case it is bordering on a potential problem happening with more police situations but if it is just you alone renting it then the main problem is just neighbours to worry about. Neighbours can be horrible to get you out following you home trashing you're car so just be careful there til you find somewherw else possibly to work from.

I would have respectfully & politely stood my ground, you're not breaking the law, and even if you were it's up to them to prove it. I wouldn't even have given my details. You're under no obligation to do so.

they sounded lovely! the ones i had in gatwick dragged me out by the arms and made a scene despite me being quiet and compliant, they also threatened to arrest me for trespassing, it was sooo embarrassing in the lobby everyone was looking like i was some urchin. but that was a hotel outcall. i had two quite young police officers and they kept asking me 'why do you lower yourself to this you seem normal and not on drugs why do this?' i was only 18 at the time and didn't know what to do. its horrible isn't it? i found myself getting super paranoid afterwards that they had a record of me or were watching me. nothing ever happened again though. I don't think they will visit you again specifically but maybe they will check on the incall location if any more reports are made? theres god ones and bad ones and it sounded like you was sort of lucky and they were more on your side :)
This sounds like grounds for a complaint.

Gosh that's awful and I consider myself lucky as they only looked around a had a friendly chat with me.

Yeah, I rented a few times from the same girl. Lovely flats, but she had a ton of them throughout the South of England, each two bedroom, two girls at a time, changing weekly.
She once sent a text to everyone she rented to, upset over things like leaving condoms outside the communal bins, being noisy and annoying neighbours, etc.
Thing is, you may be quiet as a church mouse, tidy, and discreet, but if there have been a couple dozen others through the place over the preceding months, odds are that some of them have been careless and the neighbours have noticed.

If we're working alone, Independant, minding our own business, maybe 2 clients a day. In calls. In a rented or personally owned place. And just us working there. Is that illegal? Can it be stopped/ told to legally stop?

Not by the police, although you'll likely be in breach of your lease so you can be told to stop by a landlord.
The OP was/is working from a brothel, which means that while she isn't commiting any offence.somebody not too far away is, and the police visit means that they know that :)

It is legal to work on you're own but i was pressured by police once and had the full scare package and told to go from the place/ area or i would have trouble had detective heading the visit with uniform as well. They wanted to make sure i had no pimp but that was not enough they still said i needed to go as they were under pressure and would be made worse if i stayed and never took there threat. I also was renting so breaking the terms of lease. Different police or forces seem to act different does not seem to be 1 rule for everyone i also had a nice experience with a different police force where they we're supportive.

Police are ok but there must be a complaint against to you. Sorry but they won't turn up on your doorstep....btw

She should have been round checking herself. If you are going to rent to working girls you cannot rely on them to clean before they leave.

It's not helpful no, but then nor are the posts about deposits or cleaning because they're nothing to do with the topic.
Christine, did you read any of the thread at all or just the first post? The OP has made it clear what the situation is or at least is likely to be, and so have other posters. Please have another look.

Yes I think you should look for another location. I can understand that you are unable to relax with clients and the last thing you need is to have visit from the police whilst you with your client.
Still thinking there must be a complaint from your neiboroughs or indescreete stalking client who reported you. Police won't waste their time without complaint.
High volume of clients can work only for a few months and it doesn't matter if you are discreete or not. Neiboroughs will notice or you'll get stalking client who will cause troubles.
Personally I would leave and find another location.

Not in all cases does it mean if someone has police visit they have always been indiscreet just takes one person to notice even a low volume amount turning up.

If it's your own place it's all legal unless your in breach of lease but as has been said if a flats used for different girls even working alone .
I see a lot of Police and have their home phone numbers in my phone in case I have any problems , a good tip is to call the control room the number will be online and keep in phone then you can check they have actually been sent there ;)
I've had problems with neighbours before but I think it's always nice to be considerate and keep the noise down and traffic reasonable I never used to put music on I used to put the telly on talk sport or something so it sounds like voices , hope this is helpful :)

OK, so a friend of mine had to abandon the flat she'd used for years without any issues because of another flat in the same building being indiscreet. My friend had a 2 bed and she'd often rent the other bedroom. Never had a problem.
But one day she realised that there was another working flat on the same floor, right next to the lift. When she was coming from or waiting from the lift, she'd notice men standing in front of the flat and knocking. And waiting and knocking again. Then after a few minutes there was the tap-tap of heels and the door would open and a woman's voice saying hello to let him in.
I saw this, myself, on a few occasions when visiting my friend. Different men of all ages, classes and races, waiting at the same door.
1. Who wears high heels indoors and not to go out?
2. Who has all male visitors at all hours?
3. Who has visitors to their homes of all different races, ages and social classes? Most people tend to socialise with people like themselves.
Because they were right next to the lift, quite a lot of people saw this. Because they made the clients stand out there knocking, everyone got a good look.
So the police got involved and CCTV was studied. And that's when they noticed the second stream of men going on down to my friend's flat. Hers was around a corner and much less viewable, but if you watch the CCTV you'll see a parade of men coming and going. Watch the CCTV for that corridor and you've identified the flat.
So even though my friend was always discreet and went undetected for years, once someone had a look, it was spotted. And they started looking because the other flat might as well have had a red light over the door.

To a nosey neighbour of an indi girl working alone, an excuse could be made that she has an active sex life and these are men visiting off a hookup site. 2 guys a day for example. Tinder/extra marital affairs type website hookups. Nothing wrong with that, and could be a valid excuse.
I guess the police only have solid evidence someone's escorting from say a private rented flat or even their own home they own. If a client has dobbed them in and can send proof of her advertising and proof of her confirming her address for selling sexual services
Just a thought if ever someone had that situation when mindin their own business working discreetly from their own place. But like you said, you get one curtain twitcher/neighbour and they could become obsessed in watching out for any new guests and make a complaint. Would this excuse suffice? What do you think?

Yes but with Tinder you are probably choosing someone you are a bit attracted to not some old ugly man in his 70's so the neighbour would see a whole mix of the weird and wonderful

Not all sex addicts are choosy :D I might still use it as an excuse should the situation arise and I need a quick excuse ;D although not sure what's worse. Being known by your neighbours after as just an un fussy loose hoe. Or a paid hoe haha
