Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia mainly. Syphilis (AFAIK) no. HIV the risks are very small. If you do OWO, you should not if you have e.g. bleeding gums, or within 24h of any dental work etc. Also don't brush teeth vigorously just before or after OWO.

this mite be a stupid question but never knew u could catch std's via oral

I may have misread this as a punctuation error but in case it isn't, you can most definitely contract and pass on syphilis via oral sex, giving or receiving.

It's an incredibly contagious bacterial infection spread via body fluids as well as skin to skin contact with the sore/chancre, which can easily go unnoticed if its on a mucous membrane which can include your throat or even the inside of your nose. Whilst it isn't that common (according to my GUM, anyway) it's extremely nasty and can cause some serious damage even when caught and treated.

Ah, sorry Amy - I didn't double-check first, but does make sense that syphilis is also an oral risk. And it is indeed a nasty bugger, as it's so easy to miss the primary symptom (chancre) and even the secondary ones (rash and joint pains etc.) so unless you're tested you can head into unpleasant tertiary symptoms easily, and it's very difficult to treat then.

Yikes:

The findings in this report suggest that during 2000-2002, 13.7% of syphilis cases in Chicago were attributed to oral sex, including 20.3% of cases among MSM. Other reports also have associated oral sex with transmission of syphilis; one third of MSM who were involved in syphilis outbreaks in Brighton and Manchester, United Kingdom, acquired syphilis through oral sex.

Yes, pretty much.

HIV is the least likely to be transmitted, although possible if you have a sore in your mouth of bleeding gums.

Most common are chlamydia and gonorrhoea.

Syphilis almost died out in the UK - the number of cases per year was tiny. It's still uncommon, but came back typically via localised outbreaks typically linked to OWO at saunas (both the gay scene 'sex on the premises' sort and female workers / male clients brothels).

But there are still arguments about whether some STIs can be transmitted orally in real life for the reasons given earlier.

Everyone takes their own view about how much risk is too much, and hooray for that.

Ok, I'm a little freaked out by this post as I thoughts was being safe by doing OW.

So just to clarify, by letting clients give me oral I can put myself at risk to contract all these STI's from their mouth?

Just my take on this - the chances of an escort catching a bacterial STI or HIV via receiving oral from a client are very low IMO. As we know, herpes is the main risk here because of cold sores especially. But people can shed the virus unawares at any time as well, I think?

Even if a man had a genital dose of e.g. gonorrhoea, he'd been unlikely to infect you via oral. Again, this is just my belief. As far as I understand it, oral gonorrhoea doesn't travel to your genitals, and vice versa. So a man would only contract an oral infection from giving RO to an infected woman or oral to an infected man.

For me, in the general scheme of escorting work, RO is low risk.

Sorry to sound daft. So what if I slept with a client (protected sex) while having an std ( I was unaware of this) the client gives me oral sex, I then go to the clinic get treated for the std.... If I was then to see my client again and he again gave me RO would I then reinfect myself x

Possibly, though he wouldn't necessarily contract anything from one bout of RO. Also, if you caught anything, either you or the clinic would hopefully inform all your clients that they needed to be checked out.

There is a very useful chart online, if you google "san Francisco sti chart" this chart shows you all the risks for different types of sexual activity, and is published by a specialist clinic STI in the states who really know their stuff.  The list echos what the staff at my local GU clinic told me in the past.

I asked a regular client when he had last been tested, he sees a lot of Escorts and has been doing for years.

His reply, " I don't need to get tested, you get tested and are always clear so  I can't have anything"

It misses out a couple of things, but it's a reasonable view.
