What do you do when hotel has key card access?
« on: 09 July 2017, 06:51:14 pm »
So I've just checked into a hotel which was recommended to me by a WG and the lifts all have key card access on.

It's cost quite a lot for the 2 nights so don't want to just give it up, any suggestions? I'm on the 4th floor so whilst there are stairs it's a trek. Also do the staff monitor cameras? Could I for example meet them at the lifts or would this raise suspicion?

Thank you xxx

You've been there for a few hours now but...
I would somehow try and get them to move me to a lower floor. No clue how to do it now as it's already evening.
Maybe go to the reception say you're sorry you didn't want to annoy them but truth is you have anxiety issues when on higher floors and now that it's getting late you realised you won't be able to sleep... Could they maybe move you somewhere floor 1 or something?

Sorry, out of ideas here. Good luck xx

That's such a good idea.... I wonder if I could perhaps approach reception in the morning and say I couldn't sleep because of this and could they move me to a lower floor. Had plenty of TW calls too so all in all a big fat no for returning to this area.

Thank you for your input xxx

What would I do ... all of the following
Cry
Watch Netflix
Eat chocolate and drink wine
Cuss everyone from my mother , to my dog to , trip advisor
Stamp my feet
Ring my friends and moan
Post on here 😄

Actually it's never actually happened but I've had a few hotels where I've felt really uncomfortable so have just written it off as a loss or stayed the night and got a refund back for the following days

Did you pay in advance or was it a flexible booking
If it was a flex booking / free cancellation just ask reception if you can check out tomorrow and how much money will you get back .
Make sure you ask this before check out time
Hotels are totally used to people checking in and then leaving early so don't worry about what they might think
Just say you need to get home family emergency

Can you name the hotel so that we can all avoid it if it's keycarded

If anybody would like the name of the hotel please PM me and I will happily send details.

I'm from Manchester and meeting family tomorrow in London so going to stay anyway but I've already done a few of the things you mentioned Paris lol

Thankfully not all is lost, I text a regular of mine and he has asked for an overnight here as he is also in London.

I will manage to sneak him in as it's just one but definitely will not be using this hotel again xxx

Depends how many clients you are seeing. I've worked from key carded hotels, walked in with one client at check in (we'd both been held up by an accident on the motorway), the next client wasn't til the following morning and I met him by the front door.

So please you had the overnight client Jessica.  All was not lost then.  That was lucky especially as overnights are rarer thesedays

Yes thankfully it made the trip worth going and also managed to sneak another 2 hour booking in. Could have been a disaster without those two though xxx
