Hello,  this is my first post after lurking for a while,
Escorting is what i want to do and as I have not put it in to practice yet I have been asking myself what excuses have stalled me, not the job in it self i did work for an agency years ago ( well 3) for a short time , the barriers i am finding is what to tell friends and family   honesty is not an option for now I have other peoples feelings to protect,
I am currently out of work and a single parent so yes childcare is an area to cover too.
I am leaning towards declaring I am tempting ( have done in the past and can answer any questions re guarding my day with a work is work lol) I want to minimise any white lies if poss  ( oh I am close  London and kent  I live in commute belt land

As I want to allow flexability re guarding hours and would like to tour  I was looking to state I temp for an hotel chain so cover night reception sometimes and  travel but do not get discounts as not a full employee I know i will get hit up for discounts  lol    rereading it does seem I have an idea what to say   but I do value the advice for you all   hopefully can give and your experiences      also  ideas for childcare  oh to have a live in au-pair would help

bye xx

Hi there

It sounds like you have the idea already, temping, sales rep and night staff are all good. Stick to something you know about, don't name specific places of work, and never ever be tempted to 'share', because if you are fibbing, one person knowing is one person too many.

Au pairs are allowed to come and work for you for one year, and their pay is minimal as you are supposed to provide their lodgings and meals,  but they do have to live with you, it depends how you feel about company in your home.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck!
 :)

Thanks

An au-pair is out of my price range at the moment   but an idea to store away for another day I need to look into a childminder  who is flexible

you are right that keep it all short and nondescript I think  a temp is what i am am going to become
as for tax I going to go for therapist  as job title

To begin  am I being realistic that I can outcall day time hours  and make ends meet     I do aim to progress to evening and a place to incall
bye xx

Well, most of my friends know and it has been such a relief being open about what I do, I hardly know my neighbours and anyone else who asks I say I'm an environmental consultant. It's a field I know about and explains why I work strange hours and travel for work.

Any family I know has gone, so I don't have to worry about that, either.

Keeping that secret was the most limiting and difficult part of the job for me.

I just say I am in sales.....which is true....I used to work in publishing so I reel off old info if needed. Boyfriend knows all about it and a couple of friends do. Family live over a hours drive away and think I am unemployed and Mr Man is supporting me.

I once told a couple that I met on holiday, on a catamaran, in the middle of bloody nowhere, that I worked at the Ibis hotel, in a small, nowhere place.

'Really? Which one? I am at ".....oh god. I burnt in many more ways than one that day.

My friends and most of my acquaintances all know, my neighbours think I'm a management consultant and family think I'm a freelance proofreader, which I can get away with by being as pedantic as fook and also explains why I'm either working from home or always dashing off to 'seminars' and 'courses' for a few days. I did actually do some research on it just in case and would recommend others do likewise.

The other thing is not to pick anything that people will ask you things about unless you can field the questions - accounts seem like a good idea but people will collar you to ask for financial advice and if you're obviously stumped than it won't be convincing for long. Things like aromatherapist, life coach and personal trainer are popular too.

I am a real accountant, but I just tell them I am a lazy one that doesn't want any more business if they try to engage me.

Or I say I don't mix business with friendship  - ha ha ha.

Yes a life coach  I think even the Speakmans are not sure what the actual job is .

In a way it fits I certainly aim to give my clients a spring in their step and a smile  and make them feel they are the greatest  :P

Mundane as possable  is the way to go I want to have the glazed over bored look when I mention work

Oh Lucy  to meet a fellow 'colleague ' what luck

In a way I envy those who have people who they can be them selves with    as It is isolating  and I hate to lie however I am doing this to provide for those   I love  too contine the life we had while spending time with them not working 24/7 and it  still not being enough  sorry my poor me moment over

I find it very difficult hiding what i do from my family. Most of them know i do the modelling side of it (maybe not quite what kind of modelling i do though! :p lol) so they think thats my only job for now. I have nearly got caught a couple of times and its caused big problems with me and my mum as she does suspect she just cant prove it, she makes sure i know exactly what she thinks though of 'prostitution'! I have to try let it go over my head but sometimes i so tempted to just say 'well yeah actually i am an escort and i love it!!!' But thats not very sensible  ::)

My dad knows everything i do and is fine with it, we are very close and pretty open with each other so providing im safe hes happy with it.

I am also a single parent to 2 children. When i first started i wasnt doing that much work really so my dad would watch them for me and i didnt declare what i did. But it was getting difficult working around my dad so i decided to make it more of a job than a thing on the side and i registered self employed. I get my childcare paid for me with working tax credit and ive got a childminder thats fairly flexible.

It does mean i can only work day times 9-5 ish monday to friday which limits the clients i get but its enough for now to keep me going. If i get a request for an overnight (which isnt very often, i must be advertising in the wrong places! lol) then i will make sure i find a babysitter for a night, i wouldnt miss out on that amount of money! lol

Actuary is quite good as it is at least 100x more boring than accountancy, more info here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Actuary

as it's more corporate, people won't ask you for tax advice.

My personal favourite is court reporter as you 'can't tell anyone anything' as all court cases are confidential. You just have to be able to type to be one!! The hours are also funny as cases can be as long or as short as you like.

hehehheehehe

hmm  I could add attending night classes in the hope of embarking in a future career (as  an/in the field of) Actuary not going to spark many conversations once they know what it is

The ideas on here have been great thanks,   and I did not think I would be able to claim childminding costs  but if I am registered of course I could as my hours would be  limited and there for income

Hahaha! W ell my family think I am spending my days training for a care working company, or seeing friends. But my friends know what I do.

I am just very careful about my money situation and hide it well!

My parents and sisters live over 200 miles away and all think I do plus size fetish modelling which is easy to cover as i often do that type of picture for my galleries anyway and they all love the pictures of me in leather chain and PVC ;D It also explains why I have to travel every 6weeks ;)

My close friends and my hubby all know what I do as I am an appalling liar and just could not keep it from blurting out

I'm a freelance proofreader, which I can get away with by being as pedantic as fook and also explains why I'm either working from home or always dashing off to 'seminars' and 'courses' for a few days.

Hmmm....okay, maybe I should change my profession from simply 'photography' to being a proofreader LOL.

I sometimes find it tricky to completely explain my 'job'. I just try to say Im a scout, headhunter and recruit models for photographers and agencies. Which...is partly true as a do model on the side...so Im able to make up all sorts of wild stories and scenarios of a day of the job LOL.

People should really just mind their business though. There are so many more questions to ask other than, "so Joey, what do you do for work?"  Ummm...., what do YOU do for work?? Dont be trying to prod in my business....you tell me 1st and I'll proceed.

I say so because...a friend of mine knows a lady across the street, and she asked about my work...yet come to realize, she never told me what SHE did for work. So the other day, she's talking about her work...and I say, "Ms Thing, you never told me what YOU did for work'...
