Brothel vs not brothel question...
« on: 25 May 2012, 02:38:20 pm »
Hi all

Just seeking a bit of clarity on a. what constitutes a brothel b. who gets in trouble if they are found to be working as an escort in one as am a bit hazy on this.

At mo I rent an apartment having use of the whole apartment as well as a room. But there is also another bedroom - if I happen to be working there when another girl is working out of the other bedroom, has the status of that apartment changed and am I now working in a brothel? (I'm not working with that girl, just in the same flat)......? On my own am I 'untouchable' in the law, but if someone else is there I'm classed as working in a brothel (is that me that's for it or the flat owner - see below)?

If the police battered down the door would it be me, the other girl, both of us, or just the person who ultimately owns the flat and rents it out that would be in trouble?? If it was me, what would/could I be charged with??

I can't control if the second bedroom is rented out at the same time as I'm there as sometimes it might be, sometimes it might not. Just want to be sure I understand the risks as per if police did get involved or had to be called due to a dodgy customer, what my case in each scenario (me on my own vs me and someone else (but not directly working together)) would be.

I know this has been touched on in a thread about offering duo's when two girls are working together to provide a service together - just wondered how you stood in an apartment rented by the night in the two scenarios of you on your tod, you working there when someone else is working in the other bedroom.

Sorry, that was awfully long-winded - hope you can decipher what I'm rambling on about!!!

A brothel is anywhere more than one person is offering sex. They don't have to be there at the same time and, thanks to a bit of 1920's class-ism, they don't even have to charge. Consequently, an awful lot of places are brothels. So yes, if someone were working out of the other bedroom, it's definitely a brothel, but it already is if the owner is renting it out to someone else while you're not there.

There are a variety of offences connected with brothels. The owner / landlord commit an offence if they know what's going on. More usually prosecuted are the ones around running or controlling it.

If the police did take an interest (don't annoy the neighbours!) then they'd ask you some questions about what's going on, but you don't own it and you don't run it - you don't say who can work there when or do anything other than work there - so you're fine.

'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."
